Women’s Soccer Posts Third Straight Shutout To Start Season

Sheehan scores game winner for the Brewers

Riverdale, NY – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team extended its season opening win streak to three games Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 road victory at the University of Mount Saint Vincent. Caroline Sheehan (Springfield, IL) scored her first goal of the season and Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) recorded her second straight shutout in goal.
 
Vassar begins the season 3-0 and records its third straight victory over the Dolphins. Mount Saint Vincent slips to 1-2 through its first three games of the season.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar stifled Mount Saint Vincent throughout Saturday's contest, holding the Dolphins without a shot prior to halftime.
  • The Brewers finally broke the ice in the 37th minute when Sheehan found the back of the net for the first time at the 36:30 mark of the tilt.
  • Vassar finished the opening stanza with an 8-0 advantage in shots and took the only five corner kicks prior to halftime.
  • Mount Saint Vincent goalkeeper, Kaitlyn Grady, made five first half saves for the Dolphins.
  • There would be no scoring in the second half on Saturday despite a 7-3 advantage in shots for the Brewers over the final 45 minutes.
