Yu scores game-winner, Allen tallies team-leading fourth goal of the season

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Field Hockey team upended #9 Stevens, 3-2, at home on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers used goals from junior Mackenzie Allen, sophomore Sophia Jammar and sophomore Sydney Yu, who scored the game-winner, to earn its fourth victory of the season. Vassar's record improves to 4-2 overall, including its first home win of the season, while the Ducks drop to 4-2 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Following a scoreless opening quarter, Stevens struck first as Jess Kopernick scored her fourth goal of the season off a rebound to take a 1-0 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half.
  • VC scored the equalizer in the final minute of the opening 30 minutes off a penalty corner as Allen drilled home her fourth goal of the season off a pass from sophomore Audrey Izzo to knot the game at one heading to the halftime break.
  • Seven minutes into the third period, Yu dribbled the ball all the way into the circle and put the ball between the goalkeeper's legs to put the Brewers ahead 2-1.
  • Vassar then expanded its lead to 3-1 with just over a minute left in the third quarter off another corner with Jammar powering her shot in the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Autumn Dowiak.
  • The Ducks cut the deficit to one with 13 minutes to go in regulation with Kylee Scherer knocking home a rebound to put Stevens within 3-2.
  • Julianna O'Sheal made four saves in a three minute period for the Ducks to keep the deficit at 3-2, leading to a corner from Stevens with four minutes remaining but the Brewers held the Ducks without a shot to earn the 3-2 win over the ninth-ranked Ducks.
For The Brewers
  • Allen scored her team-leading fourth goal of the campaign while Yu netted her third goal of the season.
  • Jammar knocked in her first goal of 2026 along while Izzo posted her second assist and Dowiak added her first assist of the season.
  • Junior Zoe Robinson finished with two shots on target along with senior Anna Hazewindus and junior Ava Salvati each notching a defensive save.
  • First year Kendra Pitts earns her third win of the season in goal and made three saves.
For The Ducks
  • Kopernick and Scherer each posted a goal for Stevens while Molly DiCampli and Jenna Piantieri each recorded two shots.
  • Natalie Ward took the loss in goal as she played the first 45 minutes along with O'Sheal making four saves in a quarter of action.
Game Statistics
  • Shots finished the game even at 11 and shots on goal was also even at seven apiece.
  • Vassar held a slim 5-4 edge in penalty corners.
