Men’s Tennis Clinches Top Seed In Liberty League Championship With Win Over #22 Skidmore

Brewers knock-off #22 Skidmore Saturday

Poughkeepsie, NY – The #37 Vassar College Men's Tennis team scored an impressive 6-1 victory over #22 Skidmore Saturday morning and with the win clinched the top seed in the upcoming Liberty League Championship. First Year Jonas Santos (Las Vegas, NV) clinched the win for Vassar with a fifth singles victory.
 
Saturday's win pushes Vassar's winning streak to nine matches and improves it to 14-5 overall on the season and a perfect 7-0 in Liberty League play. Skidmore slips to 12-5 overall and 5-1 against league rivals.
 
Doubles
  • Vassar earned the doubles point against the Thoroughbreds with victories at the second and third positions.
  • The Brewers' second unit of Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ) and Junchen Jia (Vail, AZ) got Vassar on the board with a 6-1 victory.
  • Eugene Lee (Chico, CA) and Santos clinched the point at the third position with a tough 7-5 victory, a win that moved them to 12-2 on the season.
 
Singles
  • Vassar was victorious at five of the six singles positions to put away the win.
  • Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL) gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-3 second singles victory.
  • At the top flight, Lee improved to 12-3 and gave the Brewers a 3-1 advantage with a 6-4, 6-4 win.
  • Santos clinched the win at the fifth position in a 6-3, 6-4 triumph, a win that pushed his singles record to 10-4 in his sixth straight win.
  • Nolan Kubiak (Oregon, WI) outlasted Skidmore's Fletcher King at the third slot, rallying for a 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) victory.
  • First Year Shrey Choudhary (Farmington, CT) scored a 6-2, 6-4 sixth singles win for Vassar, improving his singles standing to 9-2 in 11 decisions.
 
What's Next
  • Vassar closes out the regular season Sunday afternoon at RPI.
  • Skidmore was scheduled to take on Bard Saturday evening.
