Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team earned a Senior Day victory on Friday afternoon at Prentiss Field as the Brewers collected a 4-1 non-conference victory over Wesleyan behind a strong pitching performance from seniors
Addison Lee,
Cade Terada-Herzer and
Danny Wellner.
Before the game, Vassar celebrated its senior class of
Jensen Bergman,
Herbert Toler III, Wellner, Lee and Terada-Herzer.
How It Happened
- The Brewers struck first in the bottom half of the first inning as first year Kieran McGrath singled through the right side to score Bergman to take an early 1-0 lead.
- Vassar tacked on a run in the third on a RBI single from first year Jack Johnson followed by a RBI single from first year Ethan Fox-Fernandez in the fourth to pull ahead 3-0.
- Wesleyan pushed a run across in the top of the sixth on a safety squeeze bunt from Tucker DeWolf to score Cole Sipes to get back within two.
- McGrath's second RBI single of the day plated first year Noah Townsend to give the Brewers a 4-1 lead after six innings.
- Wesleyan loaded the bases in the top of the ninth with one out but Wellner recorded a strikeout and a fly out to secure the 4-1 win.
For The Brewers
- Fox-Fernandez recorded a 3-for-4 day with a RBI and a walk while McGrath went 2-for-2 with two runs batted in.
- Townsend reached base four times with two hits and two walks along with Bergman adding a hit and two runs scored.
- Johnson also notched a hit and a run batted in.
- Lee earned his second win of the season after going six innings, allowing three hits, one run, no walks and struck out five.
- Terada-Herzer tossed two scoreless innings of relief and Wellner picked up his second save of the season following a scoreless ninth inning.
For The Cardinals
- Sipes recorded two hits, including a double, and a run scored while Kato Mangum registered a double.
- Jonah Timmons and Sebastian Ortiz each tallied a hit and DeWolf drove in the lone run.
- Tanner Mahon took the loss as he went the first three innings, giving up five hits, two runs (one earned), one walk and struck out three.
- Oliver Dmochowski tossed two scoreless relief innings and struck out three.
