Brewers Battle At St. Lawrence

Burgess, Kaltsas each total five points

Canton, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team continued Liberty League play Saturday afternoon with a hard fought 13-8 loss on the road at St. Lawrence. Sophomore Elizabeth Burgess (Columbus, OH) and Maddie Kaltsas (Minnetrista, MN) led the offensive attack with five points apiece.
 
Vassar's eighth straight defeat drops it to 5-8 overall on the season and to 0-8 in Liberty League play. The Saints improve their standing to 8-6 overall and 5-4 against conference rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • After the two side traded goals over the opening six minutes, St. Lawrence ripped off three straight goals, including two from Tallis Tarbell, to open a 4-1 lead through 15 minutes.
  • Kaltsas opened the second quarter scoring for the Brewers with Logan Skuro (Chappaqua, NY) and Burgess adding second quarter tallies for Vassar.
  • St. Lawrence equaled the Brewers' three-goal output in the second frame and carried a 7-4 lead into the intermission.
  • St. Lawrence held a 20-9 advantage in shots at the break and a 9-3 edge in draw controls.
  • Vassar outscored the Saints 3-1 in the third frame to cut its deficit to just a single goal at 8-7 with 15 minutes left to play.
  • Tess Billings scored the first of three straight goals for the Brewers, with Kaltsas scoring a player-down goal ahead of a marker with 31 seconds left in the quarter to bring Vassar to within a goal.
  • Tarbell and Cate Ratham scored back-to-back goals for the Saints to start the fourth quarter and spread their lead back to 10-7 with 11:17 left to play.
  • Burgess scored with 7:38 left to make the score 10-8 with what proved to be Vassar's final tally of the day.
  • Three straight goals from St. Lawrence in the final 5:28 spread the Saints' advantage to the final five-goal decision.
  • The Saints finished the second half with a 17-13 edge in shots and a 7-4 advantage in draws.
 
For The Brewers
  • Kaltsas closed a big day with a hat trick and five points to go along with a groundball.
  • Burgess scored twice and assisted on three goals and also added a groundball.
  • Billings registered two goals, adding a groundball, a draw control and a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Emilia DiLiberto (Allison Park, PA) led the Brewers with three draw controls to go along with a caused turnover and a groundball.
  • Kate Connelly (Owings Mills, MD) forced two miscues and collected two groundballs.
  • Olivia Del Tatto (Bayville, NY) paced Vassar with a team-high eight groundballs.
  • Maddie Busam (Summit, NJ) suffered the loss in goal with 11 saves in the game.
 
For The Saints
  • Tarbell led all players with seven points, scoring six times, and added two caused turnovers.
  • Ashley Mudd totaled three points on the strength of two goals and a helper.
  • Ratham scored twice and won two draw controls.
  • Keira Dodd won seven draw controls and collected a groundball.
  • Ruthie Haims won a pair of draws, secured two groundballs and forced three turnovers.
  • Zoe Froimovitz earned the win in goal with eight saves.

  • St. Lawrence held a 37-22 advantage in shots in the game.
  • Draw controls went to the Saints by a 16-7 count.
