Baseball Drops Series Opener Against Skidmore

Vassar will head to Saratoga Springs for the final two games of the series

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team opened its final three-game Liberty League series of the season at Prentiss Field on Friday afternoon as the Brewers fell 9-2 to Skidmore. Vassar's record moves to 9-16 overall and 5-7 (3-7 East) in Liberty League action while the Thoroughbreds improve to 16-10 overall and 4-6 (3-4 East) in conference play.

How It Happened
  • Skidmore put a run on the board in the top of the first on a RBI single from Jack Collins that plated Eddie Galvao for an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Thoroughbreds added a run in the second on a sacrifice fly from EJ Stefanelli, knocking in Jack Riva following a leadoff triple, to expand the lead to two.
  • VC cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second following a RBI single from first year Noah Townsend to push junior Noah Stockman across to make it 2-1.
  • Mac Cady's one-out RBI single in the third pushed the Throughbreds lead back to two at 3-1.
  • Skidmore tacked on a run in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI double from Stefanelli to increase the lead to 4-1.
  • Nate Vandersea's two-out RBI infield single propelled the Skidmore lead to 5-1 in the seventh.
  • Vassar answered with a run in the seventh on a RBI groundout from Townsend to bring the Brewers back within three.
  • Skidmore broke the scoring open in the eighth behind bases loaded walks from Holden Caney and Riva along with a two-RBI single from Stefanelli to extend the lead to 9-2.
For The Brewers For The Thoroughbreds
  • Eddie Galvao finished with three hits, including a double, and two runs scored while Collins registered three hits, a RBI and a run scored.
  • Stefanelli knocked in four runs and recorded two hits along with Quinn McDonald and Vandersa both posting two hits.
  • Cady, Caney and Riva each garnered a hit and a run batted in.
  • Quinn Hocum earned the win on the mound after tossing seven innings and allowing nine hits, two runs, two walks and striking out nine.
  • Grayden Harris tossed two scoreless innings of relief.

  • The two teams will meet tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. in Saratoga Springs.
