Baseball Stumbles Against University of Saint Joseph

Vassar begins final conference series on Friday against Skidmore

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team fell in seven innings on Wednesday afternoon in midweek action as the Brewers dropped a 18-5 matchup against the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) at Prentiss Field. Vassar's record falls to 9-15 on the season while the Blue Jays improve to 21-11.

How It Happened
  • USJ struck for four runs in the top of the first inning as Ryan Shaw drove in two with a double, Tyler Carlstrom plated a run on a sacrifice fly and Chase Belisle knocked in a run with a two-out single.
  • VC countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning as sophomore Dash Edwards doubled with one out and scored on a double from senior Jensen Bergman to make it 4-1.
  • The Blue Jays tacked on five runs in the second behind a RBI double from Ryan Quinn, a bases loaded hit by pitch of Tyler Carlstrom and a RBI walk from Belisle and a two-RBI single from JJ Fox to go ahead 9-1.
  • Vassar responded with a RBI single from first year Aidan Annello and junior Noah Stockman, who reached on a single, later scored on a wild pitch to trim the deficit to 9-3.
  • Saint Joseph struck for seven runs in the top of the fifth following a two-RBI single from Quinn, a RBI groundout from Carlstrom, a bases loaded walk of Nick Hutson and a three-RBI triple from Fox to increase the lead to 16-3.
  • USJ added two runs in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Hunter Normandin and a bases loaded HBP of Hutson.
  • The Brewers put up two runs in the seventh on a RBI triple from Edwards and a wild pitch later scored him.
For The Brewers
  • Stockman went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Edwards tallied two hits, including a double and a triple, drove in a run and scored twice.
  • Bergman knocked in a run with a double and walked twice along with Annello knocking in a run with a hit.
  • First year Noah Townsend and classmate Ethan Fox-Fernandez each notched a hit.
  • Senior Danny Wellner suffered the loss as he went one inning, allowing five hits, four runs, one walk and struck out one.
  • First year Eric Wallick tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
For The Blue Jays
  • Fox posted a 3-for-5 game with five runs batted in, two runs scored and an extra-base hit while Quinn knocked in three runs, scored twice and added two hits.
  • Sam Balducci posted two hits and score four runs along with Jack Kane tallying two hits and three runs scored.
  • Carlstrom knocked in three runs, Shaw drove in two runs and Belisle and Huston each knocked in two runs.
  • Carsten Donovan earned the win as he went four innings, giving up six hits, three runs (two earned), one walk and struck out three.
