Baseball Collects 8-4 Midweek Victory Against Mount Saint Vincent

Vassar improves to 6-11 behind Townsend's three hits and three RBI

Poughkeepsie, NY - First year Noah Townsend tallied three hits and three runs batted in to help lead the Vassar College Baseball team to a rain-soaked 8-4 victory in eight innings over Mount Saint Vincent at Prentiss Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Vassar's record improves to 6-11 overall while the Dolphins drop to 6-13 on the season.

How It Happened
  • UMSV took a 1-0 lead on a sac fly from Devin Lane in the first inning and expanded the lead to 3-0 in the third behind a RBI single from Stephen Marinez, who later scored on an error.
  • Vassar cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third as first year Aidan Annello's single plated senior Jensen Bergman and first year Jack Biskupiak scored following a throwing error.
  • In the fourth, Townsend singled home first year Nick Kreatsoulas to even the game at four before a sacrifice flies from Bergman and Biskupiak put the Brewers ahead 5-3.
  • VC added two runs in the fifth inning behind a two-RBI single down the third base line from Townsend to knock in senior Herbert Toler III and sophomore Kyle Donlon.
  • Donlon's sacrifice fly in the sixth pushed the Vassar lead to 8-3.
  • UMSV rallied in the eighth inning as Joe Reid's RBI groundout cut the lead to 8-4 as the Dolphins pushed the tying run to the on-deck circle.
  • Senior Cade Terada-Herzer entered and recorded a strikeout and a groundout to earn his first save of the season and clinch the 8-4 win.
For The Brewers
  • Townsend finished the day 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored while McGrath tallied two hits, including a double, and a run scored.
  • Annello posted a hit and a run batted in along with sophomore Dash Edwards, Toler III and Kreatsoulas recording a hit and a run scored.
  • Bergman and Biskupiak registered a run batted in and a run scored.
  • First year Noah Sternberg started on the mound and went three innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned) and struck out two for a no-decision.
  • First year Eric Wallick earned the win in relief as he went two innings, giving up three hits and struck out one.
  • Sophomore Zach Berner added 2.1 innings out of the pen and allowed two hits, one run, two walks and struck out two.
  • Terada-Herzer earned his first save of the season over 0.2 innings of work and struck out one.
For The Dolphins
  • Logan Garcia went 3-for-4 with a run scored while Marinez tallied two hits, a RBI, a run scored and stole two bases.
  • Jayson Nigro, Carter Niles, Evan Dutzer, Michael Akalski and Josue Cepeda each posted a hit.
  • Joseph Santos took a no-decision as he threw three innings, allowing two hits, two runs (zero earned), four walks and struck out three.
  • Luke Buyes took the loss as he went 2.1 innings, giving up seven hits, six runs (three earned), two walks and one strikeout.
  • Stephen Neglia added 1.2 scoreless innings of relief and struck out three.
