Davenport, FL - The Vassar College Baseball trea earned its first win of the season on Monday afternoon as the Brewers defeated Albertus Magnus, 10-2, behind seven strong innings from junior left hander
Grant Maryott along with a 3-for-4 with three runs batted in day from first year
Ethan Fox-Fernandez.
Vassar's record improves to 1-4 overall while the Falcons drop to 1-2 on the season.
How It Happened
- Vassar struck first in the top of the first inning as Fox-Fernandez's two-out two-RBI single knocked in classmates Jack Johnson and Jack Biskupiak to take an early 2-0 lead.
- Albertus Magnus countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning following a RBI single from Robert Anton to score Adriel Espada.
- The Falcons drew even at two in the second inning on a RBI groundout from Anthony Abate to push across Brayden Hastings.
- VC hung a crooked number in the fourth after a sacrifice fly from first year Noah Townsend along with first year Eric Wallick scoring on a wild pitch.
- The Brewers pulled ahead 8-2 in the inning following a two-RBI double from Biskupiak, a RBI single from Fox-Fernandez and a throwing error that plated first year Aidan Annello.
- Vassar tacked on insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings as Fox-Fernandez scored in the eighth off a throwing error and Townsend knocked in Wallick with a RBI single in the ninth.
For The Brewers
- Fox-Fernandez finished 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a run scored while Biskupiak tallied a 2-for-4 day with a double, two RBI, two HBP, and two runs scored.
- Wallick posted two hits and two runs scored along with Johnson adding a triple and two runs scored.
- Townsend knocked in two runs while first year Kieran McGrath recorded a hit, a stolen base and a run scored.
- Maryott earned the win as he threw seven strong innings, allowing three hits, two runs and struck out seven, and retired the final 17 hitters he faced.
- Senior Danny Wellner tossed the final two innings as he didn't allow a hit and struck out three.
For The Falcons
- Anton went 1-for-2 with a run batted in while Espada and Hastings each registered a hit and a run scored.
- Alexander Heidel took the loss on the mound after throwing 3.2 innings, giving up five hits, six runs, four walks and struck out three.
- Hristos Tomczak threw the final five innings, allowing three hits, two runs (no earned), two walks and struck out three.
