Brewers Cruise Past Clark, 16-7

Heller nets four goals, Arcuri totals seven points

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team improved to 2-0 at home Saturday afternoon following a 16-7 non-conference win over visiting Clark. First Year Travis Heller (Lafayette, NJ) tallied four goals and junior Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) totaled seven points for the Brewers.
 
Vassar evens its record at 2-2 with Saturday's victory while Clark remains winless through its first four games of the season.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar led wire-to-wire on Saturday, jumping out to a 6-0 led through 15 minutes of play.
  • Drew Mazzocco (Leesburg, VA) and Arcuri scored 91 seconds into the game to give Vassar an early two goal lead.
  • Arcuri assisted on two other first quarter goals and Tate Tinker (Lexington, KY) added two goals of his own over the opening stanza.
  • Clark scored two of the first three goals of the second frame to get to within 6-2 on a Tate Gorman tally with just under four minutes left before halftime.
  • Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) potted a goal just over a minute later to send Vassar into the break with an 8-2 advantage.
  • The Brewers outshot Clark 23-18 in the first half and held a 7-5 edge in face-offs heading into the intermission.
  • Vassar spread its lead to 10-2 coming out of halftime on goals from Mazzocco and Baker Morton (West Hartford, VT).

  • Hayden Sofield (Long Beach, NY) led the Brewers with three caused turnovers.
  • Dan Bader (Forestdale, MA) forced one miscue and collected a team-high six groundballs.
  • Jess Geoghagan (Mercer Island, WA) earned the win in goal with seven first half saves.
  • Andrew Timson (Babylon, NY) turned aside four shots in just over 24 minutes of action.
 
For The Cougars
  • Zach Sinclair and Gorman each scored twice for Clark.
  • Michael Berman Annunziata assisted on a pair of goals and recorded a groundball.
  • Jack Insalaco forced two turnovers for the Cougars, recorded an assist and collected three groundballs.
  • Patrick O'Rourke won nine face-offs and led all players with seven groundballs.
  • Jack Reno made 12 saves in goal in 43:05 worth of work and secured five groundballs.
