Brewers Fly Past Hawks, 22-5

Brewers post highest goal total of the season

Poughkeepsie, NY – Junior Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) led 13 players with at least one point with a game-high seven on Wednesday as the Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team scored its most goals in a game this season in a 22-5 home win over New Paltz. The 22 goals mark the most in a game for the Brewers since netting 25 at Southern Virginia on March 12, 2025.
 
Wednesday's win moves Vassar to 3-0 at home to start the season and 4-3 overall with New Paltz falling to 0-6.
 
How It Happened
  • After allowing the first goal of the game, Vassar scored the next five to open a four-goal advantage on an Arcuri tally with just under seven minutes left in the opening period.
  • The Brewers went on to score the first four goals of the second frame, including two from Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) to break open a 9-2 advantage with 9:53 left before halftime.
  • Following a Luke Walters goal for New Paltz, Nate Johnson (Brentwood, TN) and Eli Sherman (San Francisco, CA) scored 22 seconds a part in the final two minutes of the second quarter to send Vassar into the intermission with an 11-3 lead.
  • Vassar controlled the first half with a 10-5 advantage in face-offs and a 30-12 edge in shots.
  • Vassar came out of halftime with the first five goals of the third quarter with Arcuri and Patrick Egg (Pittstown, NJ) each supplying a goal and an assist in the run.
  • New Paltz would score consecutive goals for the only time in the game in the middle stages of the third period, including a Blake Lyons player-up goal that made the score 16-5 with 5:30 left in the stanza.
  • The Brewers potted the only five goals of the fourth quarter, getting a trio of tallies from Travis Heller (Lafayette, NJ) and a pair of markers from Michael Carroll (Glastonbury, CT).
  • Vassar won 11 of the 15 face-offs in the second half and closed the final 30 minutes with a 29-9 advantage in shots.
 
For The Brewers
  • Arcuri led all players in the game with seven points, scoring three times and helping on four other goals. Arcuri moved his team lead in helpers to 17 and stands second on the team in points with 28.
  • Eads scored four times and finished with five points, posting his seventh multiple goal game to start the season. Eads holds the team lead in markers with 21 and points with 29.
  • Heller rounded out the victory with four tallies, moving his season total to 12.
  • Johnson posted a pair of goals and two assists for the Brewers.
  • Carroll finished a three-point day with two goals and a helper to go along with three groundballs.
  • Tate Tinker (Lexington, KY) found the back of the net twice and secured two groundballs.
  • Egg and Baker Morton (West Hartford, VT) both recorded a goal and an assist against the Hawks.
  • Kai Cohagan (Austin, TX) led the team with two caused turnovers and secured two groundballs.
  • Sherman went 8-for-10 in face-offs to go along with his first goal of the season and four groundballs.
  • Danny Holt (Rochester, MI) won six face-offs and led the team with five groundballs.
  • Landon Silverstein (Deer Park, NY) went 4-for-7 in face-offs and totaled four groundballs.
  • Cade Chezum (Canton, NY) was a perfect 3-for-3 in face-offs.
  • Jess Geoghagan (Mercer Island, WA) turned aside four shots in 30 minutes of work in goal.
  • Andrew Timson (Babylon, NY) made four stops in just over 20 minutes worth of action.
  • Matteo Conway (Westlake Village, CA) played a season-high 9:56 in goal on Wednesday and made one save.
 
For The Hawks
  • Finn Smith led the way for New Paltz with four points on the strength of two goals and a pair of assists.
  • Aidan Harrington caused two turnovers and led the team with four groundballs.
  • Ryan O'Hara won a team-high five face-offs and collected a groundball.
  • Jacob Kenny suffered the loss in goal with 13 saves in just over 37 minutes worth of work.
