Baseball Falls in Final Game in Florida

Vassar will begin conference play this weekend against RPI

Auburndale, FL - The Vassar College Baseball team closed its trip to Florida for the RussMatt Invitational on Tuesday as the Brewers dropped a 11-0 decision in seven innings against Salem State at Lake Myrtle Sports Park. Vassar's record moves to 2-7 overall while the Vikings improve to 2-3 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Salem State struck for eight runs in the top of the first behind a RBI single from Yabdriel Gonzalez, a two-RBI double from Ryan Barberi and a RBI single from Aidan Lynch to go ahead 4-0.
  • Ryan Bourgeois scored on a fielder's choice followed by RBI singles from Ethan Stepputtis and Jack Doyle along with a two-RBI double from Gonzalez making it 8-0.
  • The Vikings tacked on runs in the second, third and seventh as Doyle knocked in a run, Gonzalez doubled home Stepputtis and Lynch scored on a wild pitch.
For The Brewers For The Vikings
  • Gonzalez finished the day 3-for-4 with four RBI and two extra-base hits while Barberi went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.
  • Lynch added two hits, a RBI and a run scored along with Stepputtis recording a hit, three runs scored and a run batted in.
  • Nolan Currier earned the win on the mound as he tossed six innings, allowing two hits, no runs, three walks and struck out seven.
