Baseball Overwhelms Lesley, 13-2

Darrell tosses five hitless innings, Johnson blasts grand slam

Winter Haven, FL - Junior Will Darrell threw five hitless innings and struck out a career-high 12 hitters along with first year Jack Johnson blasting a grand slam to lead the Vassar College Baseball team to a 13-2 victory over Lesley on Saturday night at the RussMatt Invitational. The Brewers record improves to 2-6 overall while the Lynx drop to 1-1 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Vassar started the scoring in the third inning as first year Kieran McGrath, first year Nick Kreatsoulas and senior Jensen Bergman all drew walks to load the bases with one out.
  • Johnson cleared the bases with a homer to left center for his second round tripper of the season to put the Brewers ahead 4-0.
  • VC tacked on two runs in the fifth after first year Noah Townsend came across to score on a Lesley throwing error and a bases loaded HBP of first year Eric Wallick plated Johnson to push the lead to 6-0.
  • First year Ethan Fox-Fernandez's two-out ground rule double plated Bergman, who led off with a triple, to extend the lead to 7-0 in the top of seventh.
  • The Lynx struck for two runs in the bottom half of the inning as Logan Shudy's sacrifice fly scored Jacob Brown and Andres Moreno's RBI single kncked in Justin Owolabi.
  • The Brewers added six insurance runs in the top of ninth following a RBI walk of first year Jack Biskupiak, a wild pitch that scored Bergman, a bases loaded walk of first year Aidan Annello and Fox-Fernandez scored on a fielder's choice.
  • Kreatsoulas' two-RBI triple to the right center gap scored McGrath and Wallick to give Vassar its 13-2 final lead.
For The Brewers
  • Johnson posted a 3-for-5 night with four RBI and three runs scored while Fox-Fernandez went 3-for-3 with two walks, a double, run scored and a RBI.
  • Bergman reached base four times, including a triple and scored three runs while Kreatsoulas knocked in two runs with a triple.
  • Townsend added a hit and two runs scored along with Biskupiak, Annello, Wallick and McGrath all adding a run batted in.
  • Darrell earned his first win of the season as he tossed a hitless five innings, allowing five walks and punching out a career-high 12.
  • Junior Patrick Mill and first year Jack Sadowski each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
For The Lynx
  • Moreno tallied a hit and a RBI while Gerlys Martinez and Brown had the other two hits.
  • Shudy knocked in a run along with Owolabi reached base twice.
  • Payton Albin suffered the loss as he went 4.1 innings, allowing four hits, six runs, five walks and struck out two.
  • Logan Czachowski threw a strong 2.2 innings of relief, giving up three hits, one run, one walk ans struck out five.
