Redlands, CA – The #26 Vassar College Women's Tennis team closed out its West Coast trip Friday evening with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss at #29 Redlands.
Sieun Lee (Wake Forest, NC),
Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) and
Esme Nix (Altadena, CA) all scored singles victories for the Brewers.
Friday's defeat drops Vassar to 3-5 overall on the season with the Bulldogs improving to 4-5 through their first nine contests.
Doubles
- The Bulldogs were victorious at the top two doubles positions on Friday.
- Vassar's third pair of Lee and Sara Lippin (Chappaqua, NY) won for the third straight match after earning a 6-2 victory.
Singles
- Krishnan move to 5-3 on the season after earning a 4-1, retired victory at the fourth position for the Brewers.
- Trailing 3-1 in the match, Lee brought Vassar to within a 3-2 after earning a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory at the third slot. Friday's win improved Lee to 5-2 overall on the year.
- Trailing 3-2, Vassar battled at both the fifth and sixth positions with each match taking better than three-and-a-half hours.
- Liya Pomfret (Berkeley, CA) moved up to the fifth position against the Bulldogs and dropped a heartbreaking three-set decision.
- After dropping the opening set 6-4, Pomfret rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the second frame to score a 7-5 win. Pomfret ultimately was outlasted in the third 7-6 by Redlands' Sophia Truong.
- At six, Nix also rallied from a set deficit to even the match at 1-1 with a 7-5 second set victory. Nix would go on to score a 6-4 third set win in a match that last three-hours-and-thirty-nine minutes.

- Vassar returns to the east coast to open Liberty League play on March 29 at Ithaca.
