Poughkeepsie, NY - The #12 Vassar College Men's Volleyball team split a pair of matches at home on Saturday as the Brewers fell 16-25, 23-25, 19-25 to #2 Carthage before rebounding with a 25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 15-25 victory over Widener. Vassar's record now sits at 4-4 overall on the season.

First Set
- Following a kill from sophomore Petar Miocinovic to even the set at four, Carthage pulled ahead 7-4 on a kill from Ryan Bartz.
- The Brewers cut the lead to 10-8 following winners from sophomore Stuart Dow, junior Walter Birnbaum and sophomore Henry Bonney.
- Carthage expanded its lead to 16-10 on kills from Owen Hendricks and Hudson Sweitzer along with a block from Ryan Morey and Sweitzer.
- Four kills from Bartz and a kill each from Ruben Emmerich and Ben Heise pushed the Firebirds ahead to 23-13.
- Carthage took the first set on a kill from Hendricks.
Second Set
- The Firebirds took an early 5-2 lead on a winner from Heise.
- VC earned an 8-7 lead on winners from junior Armaan Desai and Birnbaum along with a solo block from Desai and a block from Desai and junior Parker Schoenl.
- Kills from Morey and Bartz pushed Carthage back ahead 10-8 until VC responded with two kills from Bonney to go up 12-11.
- The Firebirds evened the set at 14 on a Bartz ace and then regained the advantage at 18-16 on a Heise kill.
- The Brewers responded with a kill each from Bonney, Birnbaum and Desai to take a 20-18 lead.
- An ace from Ryan Kelly, a kill from Heise and back-to-back blocks from Bartz and Cooper Cantwell put the Firebirds ahead 23-21.
- A block from Dow and Bonney tied the set at 23 all before two Bartz kills clinched the set win for Carthage.
Third Set
- Vassar scored a 6-4 lead to begin the third set as Dow buried two kills along with a winner each from Birnbaum and Bonney.
- Carthage pulled ahead 12-9 on two Heise kills, one winner each from Bartz and Emmerich and a block from Heise and Emmerich.
- Following a Bonney kill to cut the lead to 14-11, Cathage scored three straight to make it 17-11 on another Bartz kill.
- Heise's winner pushed the Firebirds lead to 22-15 before a kill from junior Enzo Bertini cut the lead to six.
- Carthage completed the sweep following a VC error.
For The Brewers
- Bonney tallied a team-high 11 kills (.588), two kills and two digs while Birnbaum added seven kills, an ace and three digs.
- Dow recorded seven winners along with Desai garnered three kills and three blocks.
- Miocinovic chipped in three kills and a team-high 10 kills while Schoenl registered 23 assists.
For The Firebirds
- Bartz finished with a match-high 15 kills (.333), three blocks and five digs along with Heise posting 13 kills (.565), six digs and two blocks.
- Hendricks registered seven winners and two digs while Emmerich totaled four kills and four blocks (one solo).
- Morey finished with 30 assists and eight digs.

First Set
- The Pride took an early 6-2 lead following two winners from Quinby Dahl and a block from Josh Akinwale and Christian Wannamaker.
- Vassar evened the set at eight, led by a kill and a block from Miocinovic and a kill and an ace from senior Doug Chandler.
- Widener tied the set at 12 on a block from Anioma Njokama and Wannamaker before the Brewers pulled ahead 15-12 on a kill each from Bertini and Chandler.
- Two solo blocks from Chandler and a kill apiece from first year Carroll Jenkins and Bertini expanded the lead to 21-15.
- A ace from Jason Sandberg cut the deficit to 22-19 before the Brewers used a kill from Bertini and a Miocinovic ace to take the opening set.
Second Set
- An ace from Wannamaker put Widener ahead 5-3 before the Pride pushed the lead to 10-5 following a kill and an ace from Stephen Marquis.
- VC got back within three on two Bertini winners and a block from Desai and Bertini.
- The Pride answered with a kill from Marquis and a block from Akinwale and Wannamaker to go ahead 14-9.
- The Brewers cut the lead to 18-15 after a kill from Chandler and a kill and a solo block from first year Darwin Davis.
- Widener's lead increased to 23-18 after an ace from Sandberg and a kill each from Marquis and Wannamaker.
- The Brewers got within 23-20 on a block from Bertini, Chandler and Birnbaum before Widener used a kill from Akinwale and a VC error to even the match at one set apiece.
Third Set
- Vassar pulled ahead 8-5 in the third set after kills from Chandler and Birnbaum.
- Widener trimmed the lead to 12-11 on two winners from Dahl.
- The Brewers lead increased to 17-14 behind two kills from Jenkins and a winner from senior James Zuckerman.
- The Pride evened the set at 18 before taking a 21-19 lead on two Akinwale kills and a winner from Wannamaker.
- Vassar battled back to regain the lead at 24-22 on a kill from Bertini along with blocks from Bertini, Zuckerman and Jenkins.
- VC collected the set victory following a Widener service error.
Fourth Set
- Following a back-and-forth opening to the fourth set, Vassar scored five straight points, led by blocks from Zuckerman, Miocinovic and Jenkins, to take a 10-6 lead.
- Widener got within 13-10 on a Dahl kill before Vassar increased its lead to 17-10 on a kill each from Bertini, Birnbaum and Jenkins.
- A kill each from Dahl and Wannamaker got the Pride within 19-13 until a kill from Jenkins and an ace from Jenkins propelled Vassar ahead 22-13.
- The Brewers closed the match with kills from Zuckerman and Bertini to earn the four set victory.
For The Brewers
- Bertini buried a career-high 16 kills (.382) and added four blocks while Jenkins tallied 10 kills and two blocks.
- Miocinovic finished with seven kills, two blocks and six digs while Chandler totaled six kills, two aces and four blocks.
- Birnbaum added five kills, two blocks and six digs while Zuckerman finished with three kills and three blocks.
- First year Kaden Chen handed out 25 assists along with Schoenl posting 18 assists and seven digs.
- Senior Casey McMenamin lifted a team-high 10 digs.
For The Pride
- Wannamaker finished with nine kills, four blocks and seven digs along with Marquis recording nine kills, three blocks and three digs.
- Dahl registered eight kills and four digs while Njokanma garnered six kills and two blocks.
- Akinwale added five kills and five blocks along with Sandberg tallying 32 assists, two aces, two blocks and 10 digs.
- Kevin Tinio lifted six digs.
