Men’s Squash Edges Hobart In Liberty League Championship Finale

Brewers win two of three matches at championship

Canton, NY – The Vassar College Men's Squash team scored its second win of the 2026 Liberty League Championship with a tight 5-4 victory over Hobart Sunday afternoon. The victory gives Vassar two wins at the league championship for the second straight season.
 
Sunday's win improves Vassar's overall record to 5-13 on the season and gives it three victories in its last four meetings with the Statesmen.
 
For The Brewers
  • Vassar scored wins on Sunday at the fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth positions.
  • Aqeel Merchant (Arlington, MA) continued a steady rookie campaign for the Brewers with an 11-3, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6 victory against Hobart.
  • At six, senior Razaan Lalji (West Vancouver, BC) scored an 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 sweep for the Brewers.
  • First Year Julian Cardenas-Moncada (New York, NY) scored a sweep at seven on Sunday, topping his opponent by scores of 11-7, 11-9, 11-4.
  • Fellow First Year Alexander Thorn (Rye Brook, NY) outlasted his opponent at eight, battling to a 10-12, 13-11, 11-5, 4-11, 16-14 triumph.
  • Joseph Donato (Staten Island, NY) posted an impressive 11-6, 11-8, 11-1 win at the ninth slot for the Brewers.
  • Gabriel Lugo (East Hartford, CT) suffered a tight 11-8, 6-11, 1-11, 11-9, 7-11 defeat at the fifth position.
  • Senoir Kyle Benson (Bronx, NY) battled in a four-set defeat, dropping a tough 5-11, 11-4, 11-13, 6-11 decision.
  • At two, Konstantinos Georgallides (Limassol, Cyprus) went four frames in a tight 5-11, 9-11, 11-4, 9-11 defeat.
  • Sophomore Matthew Okulski (Portland, ME) competed hard for the Brewers at the top of the ladder, falling 7-11, 11-8, 6-11, 4-11 decision.
