Vassar Claims Road Victory At Drew; DiLiberto Sets Draw Control Record

Junior wins 11 draws, holds record with 157

Madison, NJ – Junior Emilia DiLiberto (Allison Park, PA) won 11 draws and totaled four points as the Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team won its season opener Saturday afternoon in a 16-9 decision at Drew. With the final draw, DiLiberto moved into first-place all-time at Vassar with 157 draw controls.
 
Vassar wins its season opener for the second straight season, while the Rangers slip to 1-1 overall.
 
How It Happened
  • The two sides alternated the first four goals of the contest before Vassar ripped off three straight, with DiLiberto scoring once and adding an assist, to open a 5-2 lead with 12:03 left before halftime.
  • Drew closed the half with three of the final four goals, getting a pair of player-up tallies, to pull to within 6-5 at the break.
  • The lone goal for Vassar over the run was a player-down goal from sophomore Maddie Kaltsas (Minnetrista, MN) with three minutes left in the half.
  • Drew outshot Vassar 16-15 over the opening 30 minutes, while Vassar dominated draw controls 9-3 prior to halftime.
  • The Brewers came out of the intermission with a 4-0 run, getting a pair of tallies from DiLiberto, to surge in front 10-5.
  • The Vassar defense held the Rangers off the board until the final two minutes of the third quarter to carry a four-goal advantage into the final frame.
  • Vassar put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 5-0 scoring run that featured a pair of markers from Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL).
  • Drew got the final two goals of the game in the final 4:05 to pull to within the final seven-goal decision.
  • Vassar held a 21-15 advantage in shots after halftime and a 9-5 edge in draw controls.
 
For The Brewers
  • DiLiberto had a big opener for Vassar, totaling a hat trick and four points to go along with 11 draw controls.
  • Diliberto entered the contest 10 draws shy of a tie for the all-time mark at Vassar of 156 set by Allie Morgan who played for the Brewers from 2008-11. The record breaker came after Drew's final goal of the contest.

  • Cassidy Schuchat (Hopewell Junction, NY) earned the win in goal with six saves.
  • Maddie Busam (Summit, NJ) made five stops in just under 25 minutes worth of work.
 
For The Rangers
  • Madi Strong scored three times for Drew and collected four groundballs.
  • Hayden Scotti scored twice and finished with three points.
  • Zoey Pipher led the team with four draw controls and added an assist.
  • Kristina Lowe caused three turnovers and collected two groundballs.
  • Emily Monaco collected five groundballs and caused two turnovers.
  • Paige Shaw suffered the loss in goal with nine saves in 45 minutes of action.
