Regan’s Career-High Paces Vassar Past William Smith

Junior nets career best 23 points

Geneva, NY – Led by a career-high 23 points from junior Maureen Regan (Oak Lawn, IL), the Vassar College Women's Basketball team stopped a three-game skid with a hard fought 53-51 road win at William Smith Friday evening.
 
Friday's win improves Vassar to 11-13 overall and 10-7 in Liberty League play, while William Smith falls to 3-21 overall and 1-16 against conference rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • Friday's game featured 13 ties and 13 lead changes, with the final lead change coming on a Regan jumper with 1:48 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Vassar would never lead by more than four points throughout the contest.
  • An Elodie Ware (Columbus, OH) bucket in the early going gave Vassar a 5-2 advantage.
  • William Smith came back with the next seven points, including a Giana Lobozzo three-pointer, that gave the Herons a 9-5 lead with 3:58 left in the opening period.
  • Vassar managed just one field goal after the Ware conversion the rest of the quarter, a Regan bucket at the 1:38 mark, to bring Vassar to within 9-7 though 10 minutes.
  • Another Lobozzo three-pointer at the 7:45 mark of the second frame pushed William Smith in front 14-9.
  • Vassar came back with a Sam Lederman (East Brunswick, NJ) layup and a Regan three-pointer to knot the score at 14-14.

For The Brewers
  • Regan scored at least 20 points in a game for the fourth time, registering a career-high 23 tallies on 9-for-13 shooting. Regan finished off the victory with six rebounds and four steals.

  • Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) scored six points and led the team with 10 rebounds and four assists.
  • Ware finished the win with six points, three assists, three blocks and a trio of steals.
  • Shoulders secured six rebounds and contributed four points.
 
For The Herons
  • Giana Lobozzo led the Herons with 20 points on the strength of a perfect 5-for-5 effort from three-point range. Lobozzo added five rebounds and four steals for William Smith.
  • Ameila McCulley led the team with six rebounds and totaled six points.

  • The Brewers finished the night shooting 40.4-percent and went 2-for-8 from three-point range.
  • William Smith converted at 37.5-percent overall and went 8-for-17 from behind the arc.
  • Vassar outscored William Smith 9-1 from the free-throw line.
  • The Herons finished with a 22-9 edge in points off of turnovers.
