Brewers Cruise Past Clarkson; Regan Nets Career-High 21 Points

Junior led three Brewers in double-figures

Poughkeepsie, NY – Junior Maureen Regan (Oak Lawn, IL) scored a career-high 21 points and led three Brewers in double-figures as the Vassar College Women's Basketball team stopped a three-game skid with a 61-40 Liberty League win over Clarkson on Friday.
 
Friday's victory pushes Vassar to 4-6 overall and a perfect 3-0 against conference rivals, while Clarkson falls to 4-7 overall and 0-4 in league action.
 
How It Happened
  • After the two teams traded buckets in the early going, Vassar used a 9-0 run, capped by a Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) basket, to surge in front 11-2.
  • Clarkson responded with an 8-2 spurt to finish the opening quarter and pulled to within 13-10 following a Bella Doyle conversion at the first quarter horn.
  • The Brewers scored six straight points to begin the second frame, including four from Regan, to pull back in front 19-10.
  • The lead grew to double-figures for the first time when Lindsey Shoulders (Glen Allen, VA) converted a free-throw to make the score 22-12 with 2:54 left before halftime.
  • The Golden Knights sliced their disadvantage back down three points on a Doyle layup in the final minute of the half.
  • McDermed scored the final four points of the half to send the Brewers into the intermission with a 26-19 advantage.
  • Vassar shot 43.5-percent in the first half on Friday and outscored Clarkson 5-0 from the free-throw line.
  • Clarkson converted at just 34.6-percent and went 1-for-12 from three-point range.
  • Regan led all scorers at the break with 10 points.
  • A 10-0 run to start the third quarter broke the game open for Vassar with a Shoulders free-throw moving the advantage to 36-19.
  • An Erin Lovett (Norwalk, CT) jumper made the score 42-21 and a Maddie Ahearn (Bethlehem, PA) jumper to close out the third quarter sent Vassar to the final frame leading 47-27.
  • Vassar saw its lead grow to a game-high 26 points twice in the fourth quarter, including on a Regan layup with 4:19 left that made the score 59-33.
  • The Brewers shot 52.2-percent after halftime and knocked in a pair of three-point field goals.
  • Clarkson shot 37.9-percent in the second half and went without a three-pointer in six attempts.
 
For The Brewers
  • Regan eclipsed her previous career-high by a single point, scoring 21 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the floor to go along with three rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
  • McDermed tallied 14 points, going 4-for-8 from the floor and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. McDermed collected a team-high eight rebounds and finished a strong night with three assists, two blocks and three steals.
  • Shoulders chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
  • Elodie Ware (Columbus, OH) handed out three assists, blocked two shots and added five points and four rebounds.
 
For The Golden Knights
  • Maddy Polky came off the bench to lead Clarkson with 15 points, adding three rebounds and a pair of steals.
  • Doyle scored 10 points and collected three rebounds.
  • Addie Kae and Elizabeth Aiossa each recorded three assists.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar shot a season-high 47.8-percent from the field on Friday and went 3-for-8 from three-point range.
  • Clarkson was held to 32.7-percent shooting in the game and went 1-for-18 from behind the arc.
  • Vassar outscored Clarkson 14-3 from the free-throw line.
  • The Brewers finished with a slim 30-28 edge in paint points.
  • Clarkson held the advantage in points off of turnovers 21-13 and second chance points 8-5.
