Balanced Scoring Leads #RV Vassar to Fifth Straight Victory

11 different players score to give the Brewers its fifth straight victory

Saratoga Springs, NY - 11 different players scored at least a point for the #RV Vassar College Men's Basketball team on Tuesday evening as the Brewers cruised past Skidmore, 67-46, on the road for Vassar's fifth straight victory. First year Gyasi Zinn led the team with a career-high 13 points to propel the Brewers to 11-3 overall and 7-0 in Liberty League play while the Thoroughbreds drop to 6-8 on the season and 2-5 in league play.

First Half
  • Vassar scored the first 13 points of the game as Zinn tallied four points and junior Shea Fitzgerald buried a three-pointer along with juniors Sebastian Medina, Kreekor Karageuzian and senior Nathan Denham each adding a bucket.
  • After an Aidan Roy jumper made it 13-3 at the 13:54 mark, the Brewers went on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes behind threes from Fitzgerald and senior Sacha Greenberg and lay-ins from Zinn and junior Eric Zhang to post a 23-3 lead.
  • Dillon McCafferty's triple brought the Thoroughbreds within 27-10 with 8:52 remaining before a triple from Medina expanded the Vassar lead to 32-10 with just under seven minutes left.
  • Skidmore got back within 18 points on a Roy three-pointer with 3:36 to go in the half until a Zinn dunk grew the lead back to 20.
  • Layups from Denham and sophomore Parker Neuenhaus pushed the lead to 44-21 before Roy connected on a three with 26 seconds left in the half to put Vassar ahead 44-24 after the opening 20 minutes of play.
  • VC closed the first half shooting 41.5-percent from the field while connecting on 5-for-10 from three-point distance and 5-for-8 from the free throw line.
  • Skidmore finished the opening 20 minutes shooting 33.3-percent overall, including 4-for-10 from three, and went 2-for-5 from the free throw stripe.
Second Half
  • Vassar opened the lead to 24 points following buckets from Fitzgerald and Denham to begin the second half.
  • The Thoroughbreds battled back to get back within 16 on a Will Wertz jumper at the 10:03 mark.
  • A quick 6-0 run, led by three points from Fitzgerald, pushed the advantage back to 22 with just over nine minutes to go in regulation.
  • Nick Padilla's jumper with 6:56 to go got the lead back under 20 but two more makes from Zinn gave the Brewers a 66-46 lead with two minutes to go.
  • The Brewers cooled to 34.6-percent overall in the second half and went just 2-for-13 from three and 3-for-6 from the free throw line.
  • Skidmore was limited to 24.5-percent from the field and went 0-for-13 from three-point range and 4-for-7 from the free throw line.
For The Brewers
  • Zinn posted a career-high 13 points on 6-for-8 shooting along with seven rebounds and two assists off the bench.
  • Denham tallied eight points and seven rebounds while Fitzgerald recorded 11 points and four rebounds.
  • Karageuzian finished an all-around night with six points, nine rebounds and four assists along with Neuenhaus registering eight points, eight rebounds and four assists.
For The Thoroughbreds
  • Roy garnered 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals while Jacob Gooden recorded 12 points and five boards.
  • Will Wertz tallied seven points and four steals along with Jack LaGarde posting six points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the evening shooting 38.8-percent overall, 7-for-23 from three-point range and 8-for-14 from the free throw line.
  • Skidmore closed the contest shooting 29.5-percent from the field while going 4-for-23 from three and 6-for-12 from the free throw stripe.
  • VC outscored the Thoroughbreds 32-16 in the paint, 19-10 in second chance points and 15-6 in points off turnovers.
