Field Hockey Drops Defensive Battle at #13 Wesleyan

Vassar returns home to take on Montclair State on Wednesday

Middletown, CT - The Vassar College Field Hockey team closed its two-game road trip on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers fell 1-0 in a defensive battle against #13 Wesleyan. Vassar's record falls to 1-2 overall while the Cardinals improve to 2-0 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Vassar had four shots on goal in the first three minutes of the contest as sophomores Zoe Robinson and Mackenzie Allen each had two shots turned aside by Wesleyan goalkeeper Audrey Pace.
  • Wesleyan's best opportunity came halfway through the second quarter as junior Grace Wiley made back-to-back stops on Sydney Cameron and Meera Patel following a corner.
  • The Brewers held a slim 7-6 edge in shots in the first half while the Cardinals had a slim 3-2 advantage in penalty corners.
  • Wesleyan scored the first only goal of the game just one minute into the second half as Teddy Tolbert tallied her second goal of the season off a rebound of a shot from Emily Smith.
For The Brewers
  • Allen recorded four shots on goal along with Robinson adding three shots on goal.
  • First year Autumn Dowiak added a shot on goal.
  • Junior Grace Wiley made three saves in the first half in goal while first year Ellie Rosen took the loss and made one save in the second half.
For The Cardinals
  • Tolbert scored the lone goal of the contest while Patel added four shots, including one on goal.
  • Pace earned the victory in goal as she made eight saves to complete the shutout.
Game Statistics
  • Wesleyan held a 15-8 advantage in shots but the Brewers outshot the Cardinals on goal 8-5.
  • The Cardinals also held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners.
