Vassar opens Liberty League play against Ithaca on Friday afternoon

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Field Hockey team outshot Roger Williams 19-6 on the day but Chelsea King's goal in the third quarter gave the Hawks a 1-0 victory over the Brewers at Weinberg Field on Sunday afternoon. Vassar's record moves to 5-4 on the season while Roger Williams improves to 7-3 overall.

How It Happened
  • Following a scoreless opening period, Vassar outshot Roger Williams 10-0 in the second quarter as the Brewers also earned five corners in the period.
  • First year Sophia Jammar and sophomore Mackenzie Allen each had two shots saved in the quarter by Roger Williams goalie Hannah Brazil.
  • Heading into the third period, sophomore Zoe Robinson, first year Sydney Day and Jammar all had strong chances in the first seven minutes of the third quarter that were turned aside by Brazil.
  • With a minute and a half left in the third quarter, King scored the lone goal of the contest on a turnaround shot just outside of the goal line.
  • The Brewers were unable to get another shot on frame in the fourth quarter but earned three more corners in the period.
For The Brewers
  • Allen fired a team-high five shots, including two on goal, while Jammar added four shots and three on target.
  • First year Julia Morris attempted three shots and put two shots on the frame.
  • Junior Grace Wiley made three saves in goal for Vassar.
For The Hawks
  • King scored her 13th goal of the season and finished with two shots on goal.
  • Maddy Monahan added two shots on target.
  • Brazil earned her sixth victory of the season in goal and made 10 saves to post the shutout.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar outshot Roger Williams 19-6 on the game, including 10-4 in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers also held the edge in penalty corners at 13-3.
