Men’s Soccer Battles #21 Ithaca To 1-1 Draw

Fiske nets sixth goal of the season

Ithaca, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team took to the road Saturday afternoon to open Liberty League play and earned a hard fought 1-1 draw at #21 Ithaca. Senior Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) provided the scoring with his sixth goal of the season.
 
Saturday's result moves Vassar to 4-2-2 overall on the season and 0-0-1 in conference action, while Ithaca remains unbeaten at 6-0-2 overall and 0-0-1 in league play.
 
How It Happened
  • Both goals on Saturday game inside the opening 20 minutes of action.
  • Ithaca got on the board first when Jack Carney scored an unassisted goal at the 13:16 mark of the contest.
  • Vassar battled back to knot the score just over five minutes later when Fiske finished off a feed from Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL) at 18:24 to even the score at 1-1.
  • Ithaca would outshoot Vassar 6-2 before halftime.
  • Vassar held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks heading into the break.
  • Vassar unleashed eight shots after the intermission on Saturday, but could not force Ithaca goalkeeper Bryson Shaull to make a save.
  • Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) turned aside a pair of Ithaca attempts, including one in the final five minutes to keep the game tied.
  • The Brewers outshot Ithaca 8-6 in the second frame.
  • Second half corner kicks went to Vassar by a 4-1 count.
 
For The Brewers
  • Fiske equaled the team-high in goals with his sixth tally of the season. Fiske, who finished the game with a team-high three shots, stands second on the team with 14 points.
  • Mejia picked up his second helper of the season on the Fiske tally.
  • Caden Clifton (Oviedo, FL) and Zapp Hotz (Ridgewood, NJ) each posted a pair of shots against the Bombers.
  • Raphan rounded out the day with the two second half saves, giving him 19 to date on the season.
 
For The Bombers
  • Carney tallied for the second time this season to open the scoring and was one of four players with two shots in the game for Ithaca.

  • Ithaca held a slim 12-10 advantage in overall shots on Saturday and outshot Vassar 3-1 in shots on goal.
