Maura McAusland tied her career-high in kills with 22 and classmate
Francesca Medrano set her career-high in assists with 41 on Saturday afternoon to help lead the Vassar College Women's Volleyball team to a four-set 25-19. 20-25, 25-18, 25-16 victory over Russell Sage at home. Vassar's record improves to 10-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 at home while the Gators drop to 5-6 on the season.
First Set
- Vassar collected a 7-4 lead to begin the match following two kills from junior Holland Kaplan, an ace from McAusland and a block from senior Rebecca Gutierrez and Kaplan.
- The lead grew to 11-6 on two winners from McAusland and a solo block from Gutierrez.
- Sage cut the deficit to 12-10 on back-to-back kills from Ashleigh Gerkman and Julia Morales.
- VC pushed the lead to 18-11 following a kill each from McAusland and sophomore Erin Lovett along with a block from Kaplan and first year Elena Feuer.
- Aniyah Kelley's winner put the Gators within 19-15 and Gerkman's kill put Sage within four at 23-19.
- Medrano's service ace clinched the opening set 25-19 victory for the Brewers.
Second Set
- The Brewers raced out to a 7-3 advantage following two kills from Lovett and Feuer, a kill and an ace from McAusland and a block from Gutierrez and Kaplan.
- Sage battled back to cut the lead to 11-10 behind an ace from Gerkman and a block from Kendall Perkins and Gerkman.
- After back-to-back kills from McAusland and Kaplan put VC ahead by three, the Gators scored four straight to take a 14-13 lead.
- McAusland's winner put the Brewers back in front at 18-17 before a six point run for Sage, led by kills from Gerkman and Cassidy Weiher and an ace from Perkins, put the Gators on top 23-18.
- Two consecutive kills from Gerkman evened the match at one set apiece after a 25-20 set win for Sage.
Third Set
- Vassar answered by scoring the first six points of the set on three aces from Medrano, a kill from McAusland and a block from sophomore Eleanor Gegen and Lovett.
- Kelley ripped off three straight kills for Sage to cut the lead down to 8-7.
- VC scored the next four points on a kill from Kaplan and a solo block from Gutierrez.
- The lead grew to 19-12 on a winner each from Lovett and McAusland along with an ace from first year Summer Stern and a block from McAusland and Lovett.
- Sage would get within 24-18 on a kill from Mia Merino and a block from Merino and Morales but Kaplan's kill put Vassar in front two sets to one at 25-19.
Fourth Set
- Following a 4-4 start to the fourth set, Vassar scored six straight points behind three aces from senior Ellie Kogan, a McAusland kill and a block from Gutierrez and Gegen.
- VC's advantage expanded to 15-6 following two Kaplan winners, one Gutierrez kill and an ace from junior T Petro.
- Three more kills from McAusland propelled the Brewers in front 21-9.
- Kills from Merino and Emily Trama along with an ace from Emma Curry trimmed the lead down to 23-14.
- Vassar clinched the match victory with a 25-16 set win following a Sage service error.
For The Brewers
- McAusland buried a career-high matching 22 kills (.419), two aces and eight digs while Kaplan added 12 kills, four blocks and seven digs.
- Lovett finished with eight winners and two blocks along with Gutierrez adding two kills and seven blocks (two solo).
- Medrano handed out a career-high 41 assists, four aces and eight digs while Kogan lifted a team-high 14 digs and added three aces.
For The Gators
- Kelley recorded a team-high 15 kills while Gerkman added eight kills, four digs, a block and an ace.
- Merino finished with six winners, two blocks and four digs along with Weiher chipping in two kills, nine assists and two blocks.
- Mia Wood registered a team-high 17 assists and six digs while Curry lifted a match-high 18 digs.
