Field Hockey Dominates in 6-0 Home Victory Over Castleton

Five different Brewers score a goal, seven tally a point

Poughkeepsie, NY - Five different Brewers scored a goal and seven different players recorded a point to lead the Vassar College Field Hockey team to a 6-0 victory at home on Saturday afternoon against Castleton. Vassar's record improves to 5-3 overall and 4-0 at Weinberg Field while the Spartans drop to 3-5 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Vassar struck first halfway through the opening quarter as sophomore Zoe Robinson scored her seventh goal of the season on a nice feed from senior Sofia Beseth to take the early lead.
  • The Brewers doubled its advantage right before the end of the first half as Robinson buried her second goal of the day off an assist from first year Julia Morris to earn a 2-0 lead heading into the half.
  • VC exploded for three goals in the third period as sophomore Mackenzie Allen scored in the opening minute of the second half on a helper from Morris to increase the advantage to three.
  • Morris scored her first goal of the game and her fourth point of the day halfway through the third quarter on an assist from first year Autumn Dowiak.
  • Sophomore Hannah Lees tallied the third goal of the period on a crossing pass from senior Karina Hoffman to put the Brewers in front 5-0 after three quarters.
  • Hoffman scored her fourth goal of the season five minutes into the fourth quarter on a pass from sophomore Jessica Pawloski to give the Brewers the final 6-0 victory.
For The Brewers
  • Robinson increased her team-leading tally in goals to eight while Morris recorded a four point day to move her in a tie for third on the squad in points with nine.
  • Hoffman added a goal and assist to rank her second on the squad in points with 11 along with Allen and Lees each scoring their second goals of the season.
  • Beseth recorded an assist to tie her for third on the team in points with nine and Dowiak and Pawloski each picked up an assist.
  • Junior Grace Wiley and first year Ellie Rosen combined on a shutout with Rosen recording the lone save of the contest.
For The Spartans
  • Caitlin Connolly registered two shots, including one on goal, while Madison Gile added a shot.
  • Zoe Martin made 15 saves in goal for Castleton.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar dominated the game, outshooting Castleton 38-3 overall and 21-1 in shots on goal.
  • The Brewers also garnered a 7-2 edge in penalty corners.

  • Vassar will play host to Roger Williams tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. 
  • Castleton travels to Russell Sage on Wednesday evening.
