Torrey’s Tally Leads Vassar Past Springfield

Junior nets first goal of 2025

Poughkeepsie, NY – Junior Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) found the back of the net for the first time in 2025 late in the first half, scoring the only goal of the game in a tight 1-0 home victory over Springfield Tuesday afternoon at Gordon Field.
 
Tuesday's win pushes Vassar to 4-2-1 overall on the season, while Springfield slips to 5-3 overall. The victory marks the third straight win for the Brewers over the Pride with Vassar outscoring Springfield 10-3 over that span.
 
How It Happened
  • A tightly contested first half saw Springfield get off two shots in the first 32 seconds of the contest.
  • Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) was forced to make a save in the opening 20 seconds and made another save in the 10th minute to keep the Pride off the board.
  • Vassar's first shot on frame came off the foot of Caden Clifton (Oviedo, FL) at the 32:30 mark that was stopped by Springfield goalkeeper, Noah Pote.
  • Vassar would break through with just over a minute left in the first half for the only scoring in the game.
  • First Year Zapp Hotz (Ridgewood, NY) played a ball to Torrey just inside the top right corner of the box that Torrey buried in the top left corner at the 43:46 mark of the contest.
  • Vassar doubled up Springfield in shots before halftime 10-5 and took three of the four first half corner kicks.
  • Raphan finished the opening stanza with a pair of saves for the Brewers.
  • Springfield would put just one of its seven second half shots on frame, with Raphan corralling an attempt from Jared Kelly in the 55th minute.
  • The Pride closed the second half with a 7-4 advantage in shots and took the only two corner kicks after halftime.
 
For The Brewers
  • Torrey became the seventh different Brewer to score a goal to date in 2025 and finished the game with a team-high three shots.
  • Hotz recorded his second assist of the season and stands with four points through seven career games.
  • 11 different Brewers recorded a shot in the victory, including Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL) who posted a pair of attempts.
  • Raphan recorded his first shutout of the season with a trio of stops on Tuesday.
