Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 6-2 overall on the season, while the Violets improve to 5-1-1 through seven contests.
How It Happened
- NYU opened the scoring in the early going on Saturday, getting on the board with a Rena Kalargiros tally in the 14th minute. Kalargiros finished an assist from Sydney Freese at 13:29 to give the Violets the early 1-0 lead.
- The early tally was the only score of the first half with NYU holding an 11-2 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks at the intermission.
- Shea finished the opening 45 minutes with four stops for the Brewers to keep Vassar within a shot after the opening stanza.
- NYU scored early again coming out of halftime, doubling its advantage in the 53rd minute on a Marlee Scanlon marker. Scanlon was on the end of a second Freese helper, giving NYU a two-goal advantage at 52:49.
- Vassar got on the board and pulled to within a goal when Arban potted her first career goal in the 84th minute to bring the Brewers to within 2-1 at 82:21.
- Vassar would get off two more shots following the Arban goal, including an attempt from Riley McGrath (Coronado, CA) with 35 seconds that was denied by NYU keeper Mia Capo.
- NYU closed the second frame with a 13-4 advantage in shots.
- Vassar held the second half advantage in corner kicks, 3-1.
- Shea made five more saves after halftime for the Brewers.
- Capo turned aside a single shot after the break.
For The Brewers
- Arban became the 10th different Brewers to score a goal over the season's first eight games.
- Arban and McGrath each finished the contest with a shot on goal.
- Shea eclipsed her previous career-high in saves by two with nine on Saturday. Shea has now made 27 stops on the season and holds a 0.84 goals against average and an .818 save percentage.
For The Violets
- Kalargiros scored for the second time in 2025.
- Scanlon scored her team leading fourth goal of the season and picked up her first game winner of the year.
- Freese assisted on her fifth and sixth goals of the season in the win.
