Field Hockey Falls Late at Bryn Mawr

Brewers begin three game homestead on Saturday afternoon

Bryn Mawr, PA - Rachel Ofner scored the game-winning goal with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter as the Vassar College Field Hockey team fell late on the road to Bryn Mawr, 2-1. Vassar's record moves to 4-3 on the season while the Owls improve to 4-3 overall.

How It Happened
  • Following a scoreless opening quarter, Vassar earned a corner four and a half minutes into the second period as first year Sophia Jammar scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Mackenzie Allen to put the Brewers ahead 1-0 at the end of the opening half.
  • Vassar held a slim 3-2 edge in shots, including 2-0 in shots on goal while Bryn Mawr owned a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners in the first half.
  • Bryn Mawr evened the game at one just one minute into the second half as Addison Graupensperg tallied her first goal of the season.
  • Vassar had three strong chances in the third quarter as Jammar, sophomore Zoe Robinson and first year Autumn Dowiak all had shots saved by Bryn Mawr goalie Charlene Basque.
  • Five minutes into the fourth quarter, junior goalie Grace Wiley made two saves on Maggie Barilla and Leya Patel to keep the game tied at one.
  • The Owls took the lead with just over four minutes remaining in regulation as Ofner found the back of the cage off a feed from Mary Stronach to make it 2-1.
  • VC had two shots on goal in the final minute from Jammar and junior Karina Hoffman but Basque made saves on both to give the Owls a 2-1 win.
For The Brewers
  • Jammar scored her fourth goal of the season and fired a team-high four shots, including three on goal.
  • Hoffman tallied two shots on net along with Robinsonm and Dowiak each adding a shot on target.
  • Allen recorded her second assist of the season and added a shot.
  • Wiley made three saves in goal for the Brewers.
For The Owls
  • Ofner and Graupensperg each scored their first goals of the season.
  • Stronach added an assist and Patel recorded two shots on target.
  • Basque made six saves in net for the win in net.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the contest with a 10-7 edge in shots, including 7-5 in shots on goal.
  • The two squads were even at 15 in penalty corners.
