#23 Vassar Pulls Away From Oneonta, 4-1

Franklin tallies twice in victory

Oneonta, NY – First Year Sonya Franklin (Lancaster, PA) scored twice and classmate Elena Valle (Rocky Hill, CT) recorded three points as the #23 Vassar College Women's Soccer team scored a 4-1 road non-conference win at Oneonta Wednesday afternoon.
 
Wednesday's victory pushes Vassar to 6-1 overall on the season and pushes its winning streak against Oneona to four games in the all-time series. Oneonta slips to 2-3-1 through the season's first six games.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar scored twice inside the first 18 minutes of the contest to carry a 2-0 lead into halftime on Wednesday.
  • Valle got the scoring started in the early going, scoring her second of the season just 3:57 into the contest.
  • Franklin added her first of the game in the 18th minute when she deposited an assist from Valle into the back of the net at 17:47.
  • Vassar controlled play in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting Oneonta 11-3 and added the only four corner kicks of the first stanza.
  • Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) made a pair of saves before the break to keep the Red Dragons off the board.
  • Oneonta goalkeeper, Bryanna Meehan, was busy before halftime and turned aside six Vassar shots.
  • Oneonta pulled to within a goal with the opening tally of the second half when Breanna Mast scored her first goal of the game at 67:25 to pull the Red Dragons to within 2-1.
  • Leading by a goal, Vassar struck twice in just 29 seconds to pull away for the three-goal victory.
  • Franklin potted her second of the game, finishing off a feed from Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA), at 84:04 to give the Brewers a two-goal cushion.
  • Off the ensuing kick-off, Lucy Hart (Portland, ME) closed out the scoring in the game at 84:33 to make the score the final 4-1 decision.
  • Vassar unleashed 11 more shots after halftime, outshooting the Red Dragons 11-4 in the second half.
  • Second half corner kicks also went to the Brewers by a 3-0 margin.
  • Shea made a trio of second half saves in goal for the Brewers.
  • Meehan made two more stops after halftime for Oneonta.
 
For The Brewers
  • Franklin scored her third and fourth goals of the season in the win, with the first tally marking her first career game winning goal. Franklin led the Brewers with six shots in the game, including four on goal.
  • Valle posted her second three-point game of the season, pushing her season point total to six.
  • Rodriguez picked up her team leading fourth assist of the campaign and has four points on the season.
  • Hart found the back of the net for the second time in 2025 and now has five points to date on the season. Hart finished the game with a trio of shots, including two on target.
  • Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) and Ava Holman (St. Louis, MO) each posted four shots in the game, including two shots on goal apiece.
  • Shea picked up her sixth win in goal and finished with five stops for the Brewers.
 
For The Red Dragons
  • Mast tallied for the first time in 2025 for Oneonta.
  • Emma Parente led the Red Dragons with two shots with both attempts landing on target.
  • Meehan made eight saves in the loss for Oneonta.

  • Vassar outshot Oneonta 22-7 in the game and doubled up the Red Dragons in shots on goal, 12-6.
