Vassar Knocks Off #14 Oneonta On Senior Day, 3-1

Tobolski finishes win with four points

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team got back into the win column Saturday afternoon with an impressive 3-1 Senior Day victory against visiting #14 Oneonta. Prior to the contest, the Brewers recognized Patrick Gale (San Antonio, TX), Otis Wildman (Tampa, FL), Diego Pastor-Valverde (Durham, NC), Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) and Bevan Howard (Brooklyn, NY); the five seniors on the 2025 roster.
 
Saturday's victory pushes Vassar to 3-1-1 overall on the season, while the Red Dragons suffer their first loss of the campaign and slip to 3-1-1 through five games.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar opened the scoring in the 24th minute with what was the only goal of the opening 45 minutes.
  • Caden Clifton (Oviedo, FL) and Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) assisted on  Fiske's fifth goal of the season at 23:45 to give Vassar a 1-0 advantage.
  • Vassar finished the opening stanza with an 8-6 advantage in shots and a slim 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Gale, making his first start of the season, turned aside one shot before halftime to keep the Red Dragons off the board.
  • The Brewers doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Toboski tallied for the sixth time in the season's first five games.
  • Tobolski received a pass from just inside midfield from Pastor-Valverde and slid a shot through the goalkeeper's legs at 56:28 to push the Brewers' lead to 2-0.
  • The advantage ballooned to three goals in the 70th minute when Wildman tucked a shot inside the left post, finishing off a passing play from Tobolski and Zapp Hotz (Ridgewood, NY), at 69:24.
  • Oneonta would get on the board just over six minutes after the Wildman goal when Nico Loaiza scored his team leading second goal of the season at 75:34.
  • Vassar closed out the second half with a 9-7 edge in shots.
  • Second half corner kicks were even at 3-3.
  • Gale turned aside three shots after halftime to preserve his first career victory.
 
For The Brewers
  • Toboski pushed his team lead in goals to six and points to 18 with Saturday's four-point effort. Tobolski potted the game winning goal, his second of the season and sixth of his career.
  • Fiske pushed his season point total to 12 with his fifth goal of the campaign.
  • Wildman found the scoring column for the first time in 2025.
  • Pastor-Valverde picked up his second assist of the season and pushed his point total to four.
  • Hotz and Clifton each picked up their first assists of the season on the Wildman tally.
  • Gale finished the game with a career-high four saves to earn the first win of his four-year career.
 
For The Red Dragons
  • Loaiza scored for the second time in 2025, gaining the team lead in markers.
  • Sam Rogers picked up his second assist of the season and led the team with five shots.
  • James Cintron suffered the loss in goal with five saves for Oneonta.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar outshot Oneonta 17-13 overall and 8-5 in shots on target.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers by a slim 5-4 margin.
 
What's Next
  • Vassar is off until September 20 when it travels to Montclair State.
  • Oneonta hosts cross-town rival Hartwick on Tuesday.
