Offense Erupts In Season Opening Victory At Western Connecticut

Tobolski tallies twice in season opener

Danbury, CT – Arden Tobolski (Chapel Hill, NC) scored twice and First Year Isaac Taegar (Metuchen, NJ) recorded three points on Friday as the Vassar College Men's Soccer team opened the 2025 season with an impressive 5-2 road win at Western Connecticut.
 
The season opening victory pushes Vassar to 1-0 on the season and gives its two straight wins over the Wolves, outscoring Western Connecticut 10-3 in the two games.
 
How It Happened
  • The Brewers erupted for three goals prior to halftime, including a pair from Tobolski.
  • Tobolski opened the scoring at the 13:41 mark with his first of the season, an unassisted tally that gave the Brewers an early 1-0 advantage.
  • The Wolves came back with the equalizer in the 31st minute when Ian Mounts finished off an assist from Nickolas Santana at 30:34.
  • Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) gave Vassar back the lead just under a minute later with his first of the season, potting a pass from Gavin Johnson (Cincinnati, OH) at the 31:31 mark of the contest.
  • Tobolski found the back of the net for the second time in the 38th minute, scoring off a feed from Taegar at 37:42 to give Vassar a two-goal lead heading into the intermission.
  • The Brewers closed the first half with a with a slim 5-4 advantage in shots.
  • First half corner kicks went to the Brewers 3-1.
  • Junior goalkeeper Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY) closed the opening 45 minutes with a trio of saves for the Brewers.
  • Vassar spread its lead to 4-1 in the 69th minute when Taegar tallied his first career goal, finishing off a feed from Clem Grossman (Cold Spring, NY) at the 68:08 mark of the tilt.
  • West Conn got back to within two goals just 24 seconds later when Jokin Martinez tallied at 68:32.
  • The Brewers pushed its lead back to three goals just 40 seconds after the Martinez marker when Diego Pastor-Valverde (Durham, NC) struck with his first goal of the season at 69:12 to close out the scoring in the game.
  • Vassar finished the second half with a 7-5 advantage in shots.
  • The Brewers took four of the six corner kicks awarded in the second frame.
  • Raphan turned aside a single shot after halftime for Vassar.
 
For The Brewers
  • Toboski led the scoring attack with a pair of goals, notching the game winning goal for the Brewers. Tobolski paced the Brewers with six shots in the contest.
  • Taegar started his collegiate career with a three-point effort, scoring once and adding an assist on the game winning goal in the victory.
  • Fiske and Pastor-Valverde each scored their first goals of the season for Vassar.
  • Grossman and Johnson each picked up their initial points of the campaign with assists in the win.
  • Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL) registered a pair of shots for Vassar.
  • Raphan picked up the win in goal with a four-save effort for the Brewers.
 
For The Wolves
  • Mounts and Martinez and tallied for the first time in 2025 for Western Connecticut.
  • Santana and Aidan Roxo both picked up assists on Friday for the Wolves with Roxo leading the team with two shots on the night.
