Liberty League Champions Kick-Off Season Against Western Connecticut, NYU

Brewers advanced to Second Round of NCAA Tournament in 2024

Poughkeepsie, NY – The 2024 Liberty League Champion Vassar College Men's Soccer team will kick-off the 2025 season this weekend when it travels to Western Connecticut Friday night before hosting New York University Sunday afternoon at Gordon Field. Live Stats and Video will be available for both contests for those unable to attend.
 
At A Glance
  • The Brewers posted a 13-4-3 overall record in 2024, including a 6-1-2 mark in conference play, earning the top seed in the 2024 Liberty League Championship.
  • Vassar toppled RIT 2-1 in the Semifinal Round of the Championship before battling past St. Lawrence on penalty kicks to claim the league title.
  • The 2024 championship marked Vassar's third Liberty League crown and first since 2016.
  • Vassar made its sixth ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament and with a 3-0 win over Rowan to open the tournament, advanced for the Second Round for the fourth time in program history.

Forward/Midfield
  • Tobolski and Fiske highlight the returning offensive attack for the Brewers in 2025.
  • Tobolski led the team with 13 goals and 30 points, producing the first 30-point season for Vassar since 2003.
  • Fiske totaled 19 points for the Brewers on the strength of eight goals and a trio of assists.
  • Junior Eli Torrey (Philadelphia, PA) had a hand in 10 goals for Vassar a season ago, potting four goals and equaling the team lead in assists with six.
  • Classmate Mauricio Mejia (Miami, FL) joined Torrey atop the team leaderboard with six helpers and chipped in a pair of goals to round out five players on last year's roster with 10 points.
  • Sophomore Joshua Lee (Bethlehem, PA) potted a trio of goals for Vassar and claimed a pair of Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors.
  • Classmate Clem Grossman (Cold Spring, NY) registered a goal and an assist for the Brewers and picked up Rookie of the Week honors on October 14.
  • Otis Wildman (Tampa, FL) started 19 games for Vassar in 2024 and registered three points, scoring once and assisting on another goal.
  • Gavin Johnson (Cincinnati, OH) appeared in 17 games as a First Year in 2024 and picked up an assist.
  • Fellow Sophomore Ken Hoang (Fort Lee, NJ) appeared in five games for Vassar during his rookie campaign.
  • Pastor-Valverde returns to the fold in 2025 after being limited to just eight games due to injury in 2024.
  • A talented trio of newcomers looks to make their impact starting against the Wolves on Friday in Isaac Taegar (Metuchen, NJ), Alejandro Martinez (Lake Mary, FL) and Tristan Hevener (Ardmore, PA).
 
Defense/Midfield
  • Jackson Allen (Chapel Hill, NC) is coming off a second straight standout season for the Brewers that culminated in All-Liberty League and All-Region selections. Allen started 17 games for the Brewers and played better than 1,500 minutes.
  • Junior Koray Tekin (Winter Park, FL) appeared in 19 games for Vassar and helped on a pair of goals in 2024.
  • Sophomore Maurizio Margiotta (Rochester, NY) saw action in eight games, including three starts, as a First Year and collected one assist.
  • Classmate Caden Clifton (Oviedo, FL) saw time in 19 contests and collected an assist.
  • Senior Bevan Howard (Brooklyn, NY) returns to the squad after seeing action in three contests a season ago.
  • Newcomers to the backline in 2025 include: Zapp Hotz (Ridgewood, NY), Shaun Hauserman (Towson, MD) and Giovanni Dimauro (Petaluma, CA).
 
Goalkeeper
  • Vassar will carry four keepers in 2025 anchored by junior Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY). Raphan started 19 games in 2024 and worked to a 1.06 goals against average and a .770 save percentage on his way to being named Third Team All-Liberty League and Third Team All-Region III.
  • Raphan produced six shutouts in 2024, including a 10-save performance in the Liberty League Championship tilt and 10 more stops in the First Round NCAA victory over Rowan.
  • Sophomore Quinn Davidson (Mamaroneck, NY) saw time in three contests as a rookie and made five saves in just under 108:00 worth of work.
  • Patrick Gale (San Antonio, TX) returns after appearing in a pair of games in 2024.
  • First Year Ethan Andrews (Charlotte, NC) joins the position group in 2025.
 
Head Coach
  • Hood returns to the Vassar sidelines for his fourth season and enters Friday's tilt with a 30-13-14 overall record and a 15-4-8 mark against conference rivals.
  • Hood has led Vassar to two appearances in the NCAA Tournament in the previous three seasons with the Brewers advancing to the Second Round on both occasions.
  • Hood headlined the 2024 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year a season ago.
 
The Schedule
  • Vassar has put together another challenging schedule in 2025, beginning with the tilts against the Wolves and Violets to open the season.
  • A tough non-conference slate also includes visits to Cortland (9/6), Montclair State (9/20) and Vassar's Second Round NCAA opponent and National Runner-Up Middlebury (10/21).
  • Home non-conference games include local rival New Paltz (9/10), Oneonta (9/13) and Springfield (9/23).
  • Liberty League play commences with a trip to Ithaca on September 27 with Vassar also making stops at Union (10/8), Hobart (10/18), RPI (10/29) and Clarkson (11/1).
  • Home conference dates feature games against Bard (10/1), RIT (10/4), a rematch of last season's title game against St. Lawrence (10/11) and Skidmore in the home finale (10/25).
