Ten Brewers Named ITA Scholar-Athletes; Women’s Tennis Earns All-Academic Team Honors

Brewers one of 165 women’s programs recognized for work in the classroom

Gilbert, AZ – The 2025 Liberty League Champion Vassar College Women's Tennis team was honored for its work off the court on Wednesday, with the Brewers earning Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Academic Team honors, while 10 student-athletes were tabbed Scholar-Athletes by the ITA.
 
To earn Team accolades, a program must produce at least a 3.2 grade point average, while student-athletes earn Scholar-Athlete recognition with at least a 3.5 grade point average. The Brewers are one of 165 Division III Women's Tennis teams recognized, while the 10 individuals make up part of the 1,269 Division III Women's Tennis players honored.
 
Senior Macey Dowd (Orinda, CA), A Sociology major for the Brewers, was named Second Team All-Liberty League in both singles and doubles in 2024-25 and earned Academic All-District accolades. Dowd posted an 11-6 record in singles play, good for third on the team in singles wins, and went on to finish the year with 25 combined wins after totaling 14 victories in doubles competition.
 
Senior Elyse Duley (Charlotte, NC), a Physics major, closed her career at Vassar in strong fashion. An Academic All-District selection in 2024-25, Duley went 8-2 in singles play for the Brewers and closed the spring with an even 20 combined wins after helping earn 12 doubles triumphs.
 
Sophomore Maddie Kirby (Davidson, NC), an undeclared major, earned six victories for the Brewers in singles play on the season and added 10 more wins in doubles play, playing primarily out of the third position.

Fellow junior Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA), A Neuroscience and Behavior major, put together another strong year for the Brewers, earning nine singles victories covering four different lineup positions. Krishnan would go on to scored three more wins for Vassar in doubles competition.
 
Junior Iris Li (Palo Alto, CA), an Earth Science major, had a breakout season for the Brewers that featured a First Team All-Liberty League selection in singles, a Second Team citation in doubles and an Academic All-District pick. Li led the team in singles victories with 14 during the spring playing out of the second slot and teamed with Dowd for a 13-4 record at second doubles. Li clinched the 2025 Liberty League title match with in a third set tie breaker and was named the Championship's Most Outstanding Performer.
 
Sophomore Sara Lippin (Chappaqua, NY), and undeclared major, posted a 2-0 record in singles play for Vassar in 2024-25 and went on to earn to wins in doubles play, scoring a win at both the second and third positions.
 
Junior Erin McCusker (Norton, MA), a Psychology major, continued a standout career in 2024-25, earning First Team All-Liberty League honors in both singles and doubles play for the Brewers. McCusker posted a 10-6 singles record playing out of the top flight for the Brewers and collected eight more wins playing as part of Vassar's top doubles pair in 2024-25.
 
Sophomore Esme Nix (Altadena, CA), also an undeclared major, earned a victory in her lone singles decision of the season and teamed with Krishnan for a second doubles victory against Bard on April 27.
 
First Year Liya Pomfret (Berkeley, CA) was victorious at fourth singles in her lone singles decision of the season and teamed with Lippin on a third doubles victory against Bard on April 27.
 
Senior Sofie Shen (New York, NY), a Psychology major, rounded out her collegiate career with a First Team All-Liberty League doubles selection as well as an Academic All-District honor. Shen earned six victories in singles play in 2024-25 and teamed with McCusker at the top doubles flight for seven victories.

Vassar closed the 2024-25 season with a 15-6 overall record and a 7-1 mark against league rivals. The Brewers won their ninth Liberty League title in 2024-25 and made their 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
