Men’s Tennis Cruises Past Coast Guard

Brewers move to .500 on the season

Poughkeepsie, NY -  The Vassar College Men's Tennis team completed a non-conference weekend sweep on Sunday with an impressive 7-0 victory over visiting Coast Guard. Vassar won all six singles matches in the contest with James Balon (Winnetka, IL) earning his 10th win of the season.
 
With Sunday's win Vassar moves to the .500 mark overall at 7-7, while Coast Guard falls to 1-9 through 10 contests.
 
Doubles
  • With victories at the second and third positions on Sunday, Vassar clinched the doubles point to open a 1-0 lead.
  • Vassar's second unit of Balon and Joaquin Gil (Brooklyn, NY) cruised to a 6-1 victory and won for the second time in as many matches paired together.
  • At third doubles, Arnav Agostinho (Brooklyn, NY) and Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ) moved to 5-2 on the season with a convincing 6-0 victory.
  • At the top spot, Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL) and Eugene Lee (Chico, CA) were outlasted in a tough 6-7 (7-9) decision.
 
Singles
  • Vassar controlled the singles competition, winning all six matches.
  • Bauermeister improved to 7-5 on the season at the top flight with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
  • Lee cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at second singles, collecting his sixth victory of the season.
  • Agostinho also eased to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the third spot and collected win number six on the season in the process.
  • At the fourth position, First Year Joseph Braun (Albuquerque, NM) blanked the opponent from Coast Guard 6-0, 6-0, also earning a sixth singles victory on the season.
  • Balon is the first Brewer to double-figure wins on the season, improving to 10-4 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
  • Gil pushed his singles record to 7-4 on Sunday after posting a 6-3, 6-1 win at the sixth slot for the Brewers.
 
What's Next
  • Vassar returns to Liberty League play on April 12 when it plays host to Ithaca.
  • Coast Guard heads to Merchant Marine on Wednesday.
