Brewers Tripped Up At RIT

Poirer totals seven points

Rochester, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team suffered just its second loss of the season on Saturday following an 18-13 road defeat at RIT. Amelia Poirier (Atherton, CA) led four Brewers with multiple points in the game with seven.
 
Saturday's defeat drops Vassar to 8-2 overall on the season and 3-2 in Liberty League play, while the Tigers jump to 8-3 overall and 4-1 against conference opponents.
 
How It Happened
  • A high scoring opening quarter saw the teams combine for 10 goals with the Brewers taking a 6-4 lead into the second frame.
  • Vassar raced out to a 4-1 lead following four straight markers, including two from Poirier, over the opening 6:18 of the contest.
  • Vassar and RIT alternated the final four goals of the quarter with Sigrid Fredlund (Seattle, WA) scoring with 2:14 left in the frame to give the Brewers a two-goal cushion through 15 minutes.
  • RIT would hold Vassar off the board in the second frame, scoring four times itself to carry an 8-6 lead into halftime.
  • Goals from Jenna Bovenzi and Kate Trojan in the first 4:29 of the quarter evened the score at 6-6.
  • RIT moved in front on an Adele Jones tally at the 5:53 mark and closed out the scoring in the half on a Morgan Nichter marker in the final minute to grab a two-goal advantage through 30 minutes.
  • Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) finished off a feed from Siena Wong (Scotts Valley, CA) to open the third period scoring and pull the Brewers to within 8-7.
  • RIT came back with the next three tallies to surge in front 12-8 on a Trojan tally with 7:43 left in the period.
  • Vassar rallied with four of the next five goals of the frame to get its deficit down to 13-12.
  • Wong scored back-to-back goals and following an RIT marker, Fredlund and Poirier tallied in the final three minutes to being the Brewers to within a single shot.
  • RIT would go on to control the fourth period, scoring the first four goals of the stanza to surge in front 17-12.
  • Bovenzi keyed the run with two goals with Zoe Heffernan adding a goal and an assist.
  • Poirier stopped the run with her fifth tally of the game, but Nitchner scored late in the quarter to close out the five-goal victory for the Tigers.
 
For The Brewers
  • Poirier finished off a big day with five goals and a pair of assists, pushing her season totals to 19 goals and 23 points.
  • Fredlund tallied four times for the Brewers.
  • Wong closed out a strong weekend with two goals and an assist.
  • Billings finished the day with a goal and an assist to go along with two groundballs.
  • Catherine Peacock (Stockton, NJ) led the team with seven draw controls and collected a groundball.
  • Emilia DiLiberto (Allison Park, PA) secured six draw controls and picked up two groundballs.
  • Olivia Del Tatto (Bayville, NY) forced two turnovers and picked up two groundballs.
  • Bree MacMullen (Medford, NJ) suffered the loss in goal, turning aside nine shots and leading the team with three groundballs.
 
For The Tigers
  • Heffernan totaled six points on the strength of two goals and four assists.
  • Nichter scored four times and finished with five points and a pair of groundballs.
  • Jones, Bovenzi and Lily DePalma and finished with a hat trick.
  • Jones led the way with seven draw controls and collected two groundballs.
  • Katherine Killian won five draws and picked up five groundballs.
  • Ellie Ruddy earned the win in goal with five saves over 45 minutes of work.
