Brewers Doubled Up By St. Lawrence

Quinn makes 10 saves, Anderson wins nine face-offs

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team closed a four-game homestand Saturday afternoon with a 10-5 Liberty League loss to visiting St. Lawrence. Five different players finished with a goal, including Holden Anderson (Windham, ME) who also won nine face-offs.
 
Saturday's loss, the Brewers sixth straight defeat, drops them to 4-7 overall and 0-4 against league rivals. St. Lawrence improves to 6-4 overall and 2-1 against conference opponents.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar never led in the contest, but pulled even at 1-1 just 4:29 into the contest on Jack Rufa's (New Milford, CT) 13th goal of the season.
  • The Saint came back with the next three goals, including a Padraic Condon marker 20 seconds after the Rufa goal, to open a 4-1 lead with 2:38 left in the opening quarter.
  • Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) brought the Brewers to within 4-2 in the last minute of the quarter with his 16th goal of the year.
  • The two teams would go scoreless in the second frame until the Saints struck with two goals just eight seconds apart with just under six minutes left before halftime.
  • Cam Croasdaile scored at 5:40 mark before Daniel Mahoney tallied at the 5:32 mark to send the visitors into the break with a 6-2 advantage.
  • Vassar came out of halftime and sliced its disadvantage to 6-4 with back-to-back markers just seven seconds apart.
  • Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) scored at the 12:08 mark and Anderson won the ensuing face-off and potted his second goal of the year at 12:01.
  • The two-goal deficit would be as close as the Brewers would get the rest of the contest.
  • St. Lawrence scored twice in the final 8:52 of the third frame with Ethan Friedberg and David Herlihy pushing the lead to 8-4.
  • Herlihy finished off a hat trick to open the fourth period scoring, giving the visitors a 9-4 lead.
  • Drew Mazzocco (Leesburg, VA) tallied for the 10th time with just over 11 minutes left in the contest ahead of a Mahoney marker that finished off the scoring in the game and gave the Saints the final five-goal advantage.
 
For The Brewers
  • Anderson finished the day with nine face-off wins, four groundballs and a goal.
  • Arcuri joined Anderson with four groundballs, adding a goal on six shots.
  • O'Hara finished up with a goal, two caused turnovers and three groundballs.
  • Mazzocco and Rufa each finished with a goal for the Brewers.
  • Matteo Roman (Arlington, VA) forced a pair of miscues in the game and collected a team-high six groundballs.
  • Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) finished the day with 10 saves in goal, making double-figure stops for the sixth straight game and the eighth time this season.
 
For The Saints
  • Herlihy finished with a hat trick and collected a groundball.
  • Mahoney finished with two goals and a helper while adding a pair of groundballs.
  • Friedberg, Croasdaile and Bobby Wells all finished with a goal and an assist.
  • Dan Anderson finished with a team-high three caused turnovers and collected four groundballs.
  • Charlie Miele caused a pair of turnovers and scooped four groundballs.
  • Condon won nine face-offs, collected a game-high eight groundballs and scored a goal.
  • Michael Marinello earned the win in goal with 16 saves for the Saints.
 
Game Statistics
  • St. Lawrence finished with a slim 39-35 advantage in shots, while Vassar held a 22-20 edge in shots on goal.
  • St. Lawrence posted a 10-9 edge in face-offs.
  • Groundballs went to the Saints by a 35-28 margin.
