Men’s Lacrosse Dealt Road Loss At Skidmore

O’Hara nets hat trick; Quinn makes 16 saves

Saratoga Springs, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team dropped its seventh straight decision on Saturday following a 10-7 road loss at league rival Skidmore. Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) led the scoring attack with a hat trick and goalie Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) turned aside 16 shots.
 
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 4-8 overall on the season and 0-5 in Liberty League play, while Skidmore improves to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.
 
How It Happened
  • A tightly contested first 15 minutes saw the Thoroughbreds carry a 4-3 lead into the second stanza.
  • O'Hara and Baker Morton (West Hartford, VT) opened the scoring for Vassar with back-to-back goals inside the first two-and-a-half minutes of the tilt.
  • Skidmore came back with two straight markers and scored four of the final five goals of the opening quarter.
  • Ryan Connonlly scored twice for Skidmore over the run with Brian Gonsalves adding a goal and an assist.
  • The two sides split four goals in the second stanza with each team scoring back-to-back goals.
  • Skidmore pushed its lead to 6-3 with markers from Mike Aiello and Gonsalves with just under six minutes left before halftime.
  • Vassar responded with consecutive goals from O'Hara just over three minutes apart to being the Brewers to within 6-5 heading into the intermission.
  • The Thoroughbreds did all the scoring in the third period, outscoring Vassar 3-0 to open a 9-5 advantage.
  • Aiello scored twice for Skidmore and Tim Blue tallied with the player-advantage with 1:43 left in the frame to close out the third quarter scoring.
  • Vassar climbed back to within 9-7 with just under nine minutes left following tallies from Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) and Matteo Roman (Arlington, VA).
  • Aiello finished off the scoring in the game with his fourth goal of the game at the 8:02 mark of the final period.
 
For The Brewers
  • O'Hara tallied third times and moved to within a goal of the team lead with 19 on the season. O'Hara also chipped in three groundballs for the Brewers on Saturday.
  • Arcuri closed the day with a goal and an assist, pushing his team lead in helpers to 12 and points to 32.
  • Roman also added a goal and a helper and rounded out the day with three groundballs.
  • Kieran Chai-Onn (Rockville, MD) led the team with three caused turnovers and five groundballs.
  • Holden Anderson (Windham, ME) won five face-offs and secured two groundballs.
  • Quinn reached double-figures in saves for the seventh straight game with his 16 on Saturday.
 
For The Thoroughbreds
  • Aiello led the scoring attack with four goals on 11 shots.
  • Gonsalves finished the day with two goals and four points to go along with two groundballs.
  • Connolly supported the win with two goals and an assist.
  • Michael Dearborn and Owen Quinn each caused four turnovers with Dearborn securing six groundballs.
  • Jason Fastiggi won 14 face-offs in the game and led all players with 10 groundballs.
  • Collin Kuester earned the win in goal with 17 saves.

  • Skidmore outshot Vassar overall 57-34, but held just a slim 26-24 advantage in shots on goal.
