Women’s Lacrosse Scores Liberty League Victory Over Bard

Brewers post double-figure wins for first time since 2015

Poughkeepsie, NY – First Years Annabelle Tracy (Warwick, RI) and Maddie Kaltsas (Minnetrista, MN) each posted a career-high six points and sophomore goalie Cassidy Schuchat (Hopewell Junction, NY) earned her first career win as the Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team posted a 17-7 home victory over Bard Wednesday evening.
 
Wednesday's victory gives Vassar double-figure wins for the first time since winning 10 games in 2015 and improves the Brewers to 10-4 overall on the season and to 5-4 in Liberty League play. Bard falls to 1-13 on the campaign and 0-9 in conference play.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar never trailed in the game after opening a 3-0 lead in the opening stanza.
  • Karina Gyllenhaal (Beverley, MA) opened the scoring with her first of the game at the 9:17 mark of the opening quarter, finishing off a feed from Elizabeth Kendrick (Big Sky, MT).
  • Emily Kallman (Jamestown, RI) and Liz Lange, (Upton, MA) added first quarter goals with Kendrick and Tracy supplying the helpers.
  • After Bard got on the board to open the second frame, Vassar ripped off three straight goals to grab a 7-1 advantage.
  • Kendrick started the second quarter scoring with Kaltsas scoring back-to-back goals for the Brewers.
  • Bard closed out the first half with a pair of Maggy Peyton tallies to climb back to within 7-3 heading into halftime.
  • Bard pushed its scoring run to three straight goals to open the third frame, getting a Gwendolyn Jamison marker to get the Raptors to within 7-4 in the opening minute of the second half.
  • Vassar responded with five straight goals to break the game open and take a 12-4 lead with 3:52 left in the third quarter.
  • Kaltsas sparked the run for the Brewers with a goal and an assist.
  • The Raptors tallied three of the next four goals, getting two tallies from Emerson Embrey and a goal and a helper from Izzi Popolizio, to pull back to within 13-7 with 7:05 left to play.
  • The Brewers put the game away with the final four goals, with Kaltsas supplying a goal and an assist and Tracy scoring a goal and helping on two others.
 
For The Brewers
  • Tracy finished with a career-high six points on Wednesday, scoring twice and helping on four other goals. Tracy finished off a strong evening with a groundball, caused turnover and draw control.
  • Kaltsas also produced a career-high six points on the strength of four goals and a pair of assists. Kaltsas also recorded a career-high five draw controls and collected a pair of groundballs.
  • Gyllenhaal finished the win with a hat trick, groundball and draw control.
  • Kallman produced three points, scoring twice and assisting on a third goal, while adding three draws, two caused turnovers and a pair of groundballs.
  • Lange scored twice and added two groundballs and two caused turnovers.
  • Kendrick contributed a goal and two assists to the victory.
  • Senior Faith Kim (Burnsville, MN) forced two turnovers and scooped two groundballs for the Brewers.
  • Schuchat earned the win in goal with a career-high seven saves to go along with a team-high five groundballs in just over 36 minutes of work.
  • Maddie Busam (Summit, NJ) came on to play the final 23:46 and turned aside four shots for the Brewers.
 
For The Raptors
  • Peyton finished with a team-high three points, scoring twice and assisting on another goal. Peyton added three draw controls and two groundballs for Bard.
  • Embrey and Jamison each scored twice with Embrey recording seven draw controls, two caused turnovers and four groundballs.
  • Popolizio finished with a goal and an assist and scooped two groundballs.
  • Ella Perreault forced three turnovers for the Raptors and collected two groundballs.
  • Lexie Blackburn suffered the loss in goal with nine saves for Bard.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar outshot Bard 32-19 overall and 26-18 in shots on goal.
  • Bard won the draw control battle by a slim 15-12 margin.
  • Groundballs went to the Brewers, 28-21.
  • Vassar finished the win 20-for-22 in clearing chances.
