Men’s Lacrosse Topped By #5/5 RPI

Quinn makes career-high 22 saves

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team suffered its fifth straight defeat Wednesday afternoon following a 12-8 loss to #5/5 RPI. For the second straight game senior goalie Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) set a new career-high in stops, turning aside 22 shots against the Engineers.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Vassar to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in Liberty League play, while RPI improves to 10-2 and 2-1 against conference rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • RPI opened a 4-0 lead over the first 9:18 of the contest. Easton Morse sparked the opening run with a goal and an assist.
  • Vassar got on the board with a player-up tally by Jack Rufa (New Milford, CT) with 3:48 left in the opening stanza.
  • RPI closed out the first quarter scoring with seven seconds left in the frame on Morse's second tally of the quarter.
  • RPI scored the first three goals of the second frame, including a Morse tally that made the score 8-1 with 8:45 left before halftime.
  • The Brewers struck with another player-up goal, this time from Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) to stop the run, before the Engineers took a 9-2 lead into halftime on another Morse tally in the final minute of the half.
  • RPI continued to control the contest in the third with three of the four goals scored in the period.
  • Arcuri added a player-up goal to being Vassar to within 10-3 with just under 10 minutes left in the period.
  • RPI added goals from Sean Smith and JD Townsend in the final 6:29 of the frame to carry a 12-3 lead into the final 15 minutes.
  • Vassar blanked RPI in the fourth quarter, getting a pair of goals from Arcuri and a goal and a helper from Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) to pull to within the final four-goal deficit.
 
For The Brewers
  • Quinn made at least 20 saves in a game for the second straight outing, posting a new career mark in stops with 22. Quinn has now made 123 saves on the season and finished Wednesday's contest with a team-high five groundballs.
  • Arcuri posted a hat trick against RPI, adding a groundball and a caused turnover.
  • O'Hara closed the contest with two goals and a helper to go along with three groundballs and a forced turnover.
  • Rufa posted a goal and an assist for the Brewers.
  • Kieran Chai-Onn (Rockville, MD) forced a turnover and collected three groundballs.
  • Holden Anderson (Windham, ME) won six face-offs and secured two groundballs.
 
For The Engineers
  • Morse closed a big day with four goals and five points for RPI.
  • Tyler Ruffini and Smith each scored twice and added an assist.
  • Zach Swanson assisted on a pair of goals.
  • Angelo Venuto dominated the face-off 'x', going 16-for-19 with 12 groundballs.
  • Joseph Perry earned the win in goal, making 11 saves in three quarters of work.
