Baseball Topples Manhattanville, 8-4

Bergman, Reyna each record three hits

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team scored its second straight victory on Wednesday evening as the Brewers defeated Manhattanvile 8-4 in a non-conference matchup at Prentiss Field, led by three hits and two runs batted in by senior Ricardo Reyna. Vassar's record improves to 7-11 overall while the Valiants drop to 12-9 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Vassar opened the scoring with three runs in the second as Reyna doubled home senior Marc Milano followed by a two-RBI double from first year Miller Young to plate two runs.
  • The Brewers lead grew to 4-0 on a solo homer from Milano in the third, his first of the season, followed by RBI groundouts from Young and senior Birch Herring-Jackson to make it 6-0 after four.
  • Manhattanville cut the lead to 6-2 in the sixth as Ryan Osso singled home two runs and a two-RBI single from Jackson Branigan in the seventh made it 6-4.
  • Vassar added insurance runs in the eighth on a RBI single from Reyna and a infield RBI single from junior Jensen Bergman to put VC on top 8-4.
For The Brewers
  • Reyna finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI while Bergman went 3-for-4 with a run batted in.
  • Young recorded a double and three RBI along with sophomore Will Darrell adding a double and three runs scored.
  • Milano blasted his first homer of the season and scored two runs.
  • Sophomore Sage Roy-Burman took the win on the mound as he went the first two innings and struck out four.
For The Valiants
  • Joseph McDonald and Joshua Gillison each tallied 2-for-4 days while Osso and Branigan knocked in two runs each.
  • CJ Archul, Chris Goohs, Anthony Mezzaucella and Yadiel Carmona each tallied a hit.
  • Jason Gardineer took the loss as he went four innings, allowing five hits, six runs, two walks and struck out two.
  • Sam Pines tossed three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit, one walk and struck out two.
