Baseball Topped in Home Doubleheader Against RPI

Brewers return to action at home on Wednesday against Mount Saint Vincent

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team fell twice at home on Saturday afternoon in Liberty League action as the Brewers suffered a 24-6 defeat in seven innings in game one before falling 10-5 in the nightcap. Vassar's record drops to 11-16 overall and 3-8 in conference play while the Engineers improve to 20-11 and 8-5 in Liberty League action.

Game 1 - RPI 24 VC 6 (7 inn.)

How It Happened
  • Vassar struck first in the bottom of the first as first year Kyle Donlon drove in two runs on a two-out single to center to go ahead 2-0.
  • RPI answered with seven runs in the second behind two-RBI singles from Aidan Hicks, Matt Chotiner and Ian Oehlschlaeger.
  • The Engineers put together a big inning in the fourth as RPI struck for 11 runs, capped by a grand slam from Hicks.
  • RPI added six more runs in the top of the seventh before Vassar scored four runs in the bottom of the inning on a RBI singles from senior Birch Herring-Jackson and first year Miller Young and a two-RBI double from sophomore Nate Crater.
For The Brewers
  • Herring-Jackson and Young each tallied two hits and a run batted in while Donlon drove in two runs.
  • Junior Taison Jemison, senior Ricardo Reyna and junior Herbert Toler III each added a hit and a run scored.
  • First year Zach Berner took the loss as he went two innings, allowing seven hits, seven runs and struck out two.
For The Engineers
  • Hicks finished 3-for-5 with six runs batted in while Lebenson and Chotiner each recorded four hits and three RBI.
  • Oehlschlaeger recorded a 3-for-6 game with three runs batted in along with Krishnappa adding two hits and two RBI.
  • Rylan Wade earned the win on the mound as he threw 6.1 innings, giving up seven hits, five runs (three earned), one walk and struck out seven.
Game 2 - RPI 10 VC 5

How It Happened
  • Both teams were held off the scoreboard in the first three innings before Lebenson blasted a solo homer to center to put RPI on top 1-0.
  • Vassar answered with four runs in the fifth as Herring-Jackson and senior Bradley Markind came across to score on an error. Senior Luke Barrientos drove home junior Jensen Bergman on a sacrifice fly followed by a RBI double from senior Marc Milano to go ahead 4-1.
  • The Engineers cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth following a double steal that plated Krishnappa and a RBI single from Ben Belliss to score Walker Abdallah.
  • RPI regained the lead in the seventh after a RBI single from Krishnappa and a two-RBI double from Levenson that put the Engineers ahead 6-4.
  • A RBI double from Jon Primerano and a sac fly from Krishnappa in the eighth extended the lead to 8-4.
  • Vassar got back within 8-5 on a RBI single from Donlon in the eighth but the Engineers added two runs in the ninth to go ahead 10-5.
For The Brewers
  • Milano finished 2-for-4 with a RBI while Barrientos and Jemison each knocked in a run.
  • Herring-Jackson, Bergman and Markind each scored a run and added a hit along with Donlon adding a hit and a RBI.
  • Sophomore Grant Maryott took a no-decision as he went five-plus innings, allowing five hits, three runs (one earned), two walks and struck out four.
  • Junior Cade Terada-Herzer took the loss in relief as he tossed 1.2 innings, giving up three hits, three runs, one walk and struck out one.
For The Engineers
  • Lebenson recorded three hits and three runs batted in while Primerano added three hits and a RBI.
  • Belliss added two hits and a RBI along with a hit, two runs scored and two RBI from Krishnappa.
  • Liam Riordan started for RPI and threw five innings, allowing four hits, four runs (one earned), three walks and struck out eight.
  • Mike Nelson earned the victory in relief as he threw three innings, giving up four hits, one run and one walk.

  • Vassar plays host to Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday for the final non-conference game of the season.
