Baseball Outslugged On the Road Against New Paltz

Brewers return to conference action on Friday afternoon at RPI

New Paltz, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team hit the road on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference matchup with SUNY New Paltz as the Brewers fell in 16-11 slugfest in eight innings due to darkness against the Hawks at Loren Campbell Field. Vassar's record drops to 10-14 overall while New Paltz improves to 21-9 on the season.

How It Happened
  • New Paltz opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first following a two-out two-RBI double from Wallace Kirkpatrick and a RBI single from Joe Richetti.
  • Vassar answered with two runs in the second as first year Kyle Donlon drew a one-out walk before senior Ricardo Reyna blasted his second homer of the season to cut the deficit to 3-2.
  • The Hawks got the lead back to three in the bottom half of the inning on back-to-back RBI singles from Tommy Kreider and Michael Ascanio.
  • New Paltz pushed another run across in the third on a bases loaded hit by pitch of Kreider to score Richetti.
  • The Brewers got within a run in the fourth inning behind RBI singles from senior Luke Barrientos, junior Taison Jemison and senior Michael Lee to trim the lead to 6-5.
  • New Paltz's advantage grew to 9-5 in the bottom of the fourth on an infield RBI single from Fabian Apicella and two more runs came across on the play on a throwing error.
  • In the fifth, Donlon was hit by pitch to leadoff the inning and was knocked in on a two-out RBI single from Bradley Markind to make it 9-6.
  • Once again, the Hawks answered in the bottom of the inning as Ascanio doubled home Kreider and Richetti knocked in Ascaio with a RBI single to expand the lead to 11-6.
  • VC drew even at 11 apiece in the sixth as Donlon singled home Barrientos, first year Miller Young laced a two-out two-RBI triple to right field and Markind's second RBI single scored Young to make it 11-11.
  • Ascanio's two-out solo homer in the bottom of the sixth put the Hawks back in front 12-11.
  • In the seventh, New Paltz's lead grew to 16-11 after Kirkpatrick scored on a wild pitch, Ryan Mackle lifted a two-run homer to score Richetti and Ryan Muskopf scored on an error.
For The Brewers
  • Markind tallied a 4-for-5 day with two RBI and a run scored while Lee finished 3-for-5 with two RBI.
  • Reyna blasted his second home run of the season along with Jemison and Barrientos each tallying two hits and a run batted in.
  • Young recorded a triple and two runs batted in while Donlon added a hit, three runs scored and a RBI.
  • Donlon took the loss in relief as he went 1.1 innings, allowing five hits, five runs and two walks.
For The Hawks
  • Ascano tallied a 4-for-6 game with three runs scored, three RBI, a homer and a double while Richetti was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two runs batted in.
  • Anthony Pericolosi garnered three hits and two runs scored along with Kreider, Mackle and Kirkpatrick all recorded two hits and two RBI.
  • Ryan Knieriemen earned the win in relief as he tossed the final 2.1 innings, giving up just two hits and striking out one.
