Vassar Edged On The Road At Keene State

Morton totals five points for the Brewers

Keene, NH – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Wednesday evening following a 16-14 non-conference road loss at Keene State. Junior Baker Morton (West Hartford, VT) led the scoring attack with five points and senior Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) finished with a season-high 16 saves in goal.
 
Wednesday's loss drops Vassar to 2-1 overall on the season with Keene State improving to 1-3 through its first four contests.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar opened an early 2-1 lead after Morton scored his first of the game and Jack Rufa (New Milford, CT) potted a player-up goal at the 11:14 mark of the opening frame.
  • Keene State came back with the next three goals, including Dylan Seymour's sixth of the season to push the Owls in front 4-2.
  • Vassar pulled to within 4-3 on a Tate Tinker (Lexington, KY) tally, but Keene State came back with a Jack Ansart goal with 1:44 left in the period to give the Owls a 5-3 lead through 15 minutes.
  • Keene State scored the first two goals of the second frame to pull in front 7-3 before Vassar responded with a 3-1 run.
  • Matteo Roman (Arlington, VA) scored back-to-back goals 16 seconds apart and Morton scored his second of the game at the 2:30 mark of the quarter to bring Vassar to within 8-6.
  • Keene State added another late tally with Nicholas McNulty finding the back of the net with 1:20 left before halftime to send the Owls into the intermission with a 9-6 lead.
  • Coming out of the break, Morton scored consecutive goals just under a minute apart to being the Brewers to within 9-8 early in the third stanza.
  • Following the Morton goals, Keene State broke the game open with a five-goal run to make the score 14-8 with 3:39 left in the third frame.
  • Ansart sparked the run for the Owls with two goals with Rex Maccarini adding a goal and a helper.
  • Vassar battled back to within 14-12 with a four-goal run that featured two goals from Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) and a player-up goal and helper from Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY).
  • Keene State answered with back-to-back goals from Maccarini to spread the Owls' lead back to 16-12 with 7:42 left to play.
  • Arcuri and Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) scored back-to-back goals to being the Brewers to within the final 16-14 decision with 3:40 left in the tilt.
  • Following the Eads goal, Vassar managed just one more shot over the final 3:40 of regulation time.
 
For The Brewers
  • Morton led the scoring attack for Vassar with four goals and an assist to go along with a caused turnover.
  • Roman finished with two goals and three groundballs.
  • Eads and O'Hara each scored twice for Vassar with O'Hara collecting two groundballs.
  • Arcuri finished the evening with two goals and an assist, adding a pair of groundballs.
  • Tinker closed a three-point night with a goal and a pair of assists.
  • Kieran Chai-Onn (Rockville, MD) led the team with two caused turnovers and finished with two groundballs.
  • Hayden Stoltzfoos (Tampa, FL) assisted on a goal and picked up six groundballs.
  • Holden Anderson (Windham, ME) won 13 face-offs and led the team with seven groundballs.
  • First Year Landon Silverstein (Deer Park, NY) went 7-for-10 in face-offs and collected four groundballs.
  • Quinn reached double-figures in saves for the second straight game, finishing one stop off his career-high of 17 saves.
 
For The Owls
  • Maccarini led Keene State with four goals and six points.
  • Ansart and McNulty each recorded a hat trick.
  • Giacomo Tedone finished the evening with a goal and three assists.
  • Aidan Donohue forced three turnovers and picked up a groundball.
  • Gabe Pereira won 11 face-offs and led the Owls with eight groundballs.
  • Dylan Florian earned the win in goal with nine saves.
