Vassar Battles #3/3 RIT

Tinker totals four points, Quinn makes career-high 21 saves

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team suffered its fourth straight loss on Saturday, dropping a 15-8 decision to #3/3 RIT. Senior goalie Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) made a career-high 21 saves in goal and First Year Tate Tinker (Lexington, KY) totaled four points for the Brewers.
 
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in Liberty League play, while the Tigers move to 11-1 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
 
How It Happened
  • The two sides played an even opening quarter, splitting four goals.
  • RIT held a one-goal advantage twice in the first 15 minutes with Vassar evening the score on each occasions.
  • Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) evened the score at 1-1 at the 10:50 mark of the first period.
  • Trailing 2-1, First Year Drew Mazzocco (Leesburg, VA) brought the Brewers even at the 7:58 mark of the first quarter to close out the scoring in the opening stanza.
  • Following the Mazzocco marker midway through the first period, RIT went on to score the next eight goals to open a 10-2 lead 31 seconds into the third quarter.
  • RIT blanked Vassar in the second frame 6-0, getting a pair of goals and an assist from Clifford Gaston.
  • Coming out of halftime, RIT scored the first two goals of the third quarter before a Jack Rufa (New Milford, CT) marker with the player-advantage at the 8:53 mark of the period.
  • The Tigers came back with the final five goals of the period to surge in front 15-3 on a Ryan Bullock goal in the closing seconds.
  • Vassar cut into the deficit with the only five goals of the final period.
  • The Brewers scored three times in just under 20 seconds early in the fourth quarter, getting a goal and a helper from Tinker, to make the score 15-6.
  • Declan McGrath (Watertown, CT) and O'Hara scored in the final 6:30 of the contest to bring Vassar to within the final seven-goal deficit.
 
For The Brewers
  • Tinker led the scoring attack with a goal and three assists against the Tigers.
  • O'Hara potted a pair of goals, pushing his season total to 14, and added two groundballs.
  • Mattero Roman (Arlington, VA) finished the day with two caused turnovers, three groundballs and a goal.
  • Kieran Chai-Onn (Rockville, MD) collected a team-high five groundballs and forced a turnover.
  • Holden Anderson (Windham, ME) won six face-offs and secured a groundball.
  • Eli Sherman (San Francisco, CA) won a trio of draws, collected to groundballs and added an assist.
  • Quinn was busy from the outset on Saturday, turning aside four shots inside the first 100 seconds of the game. Quinn reached double-figures in stops for the fourth straight game and stopped at least 20 shots in a game for the first time in his career.
  • Quinn rounded out the day with a pair of groundballs for the Brewers.
 
For The Tigers
  • Gaston potted four goals and finished the day with five points and a pair of groundballs.
  • Ian Dinga scored twice and assisted on two goals and Nate Senez posted a hat trick and added an assist.
  • Bullock and Nick DiLauro each scored twice for RIT.
  • Logan Fletcher led the team with three caused turnovers.
  • Allyn French went 8-for-10 in face-offs and led the team with six groundballs.
  • Nick Farrell was 7-for-11 at the 'x' and secured two groundballs.
  • Alex Zborowski earned his 11th win in goal with five saves over 30 minutes of work.

  • RIT finished the afternoon with a 53-34 advantage in overall shots and a 36-20 edge in shots on goal.
