First year tosses seven strong innings, sophomore records first career save

Poughkeepsie, NY - First year Zach Berner earned his first collegiate victory with seven strong innings along with sophomore Sage Roy-Burman picking up his first career save to lead the Vassar College Baseball team to a 3-2 victory over Union in the final game of the series. Vassar's record improves to 6-11 and 1-5 in Liberty League play while the Garnet Chargers fall to 13-7 and 2-1 in conference action.

How It Happened
  • Vassar struck first in the fourthĀ inning on a RBI single from senior Ricardo Reyna to plate classmate Luke Barrientos.
  • VC's lead grew to 3-0 in the fifth as a bunt single from junior Taison Jemison pushed junior Jensen Bergman across and Barrientos knocked in senior Daniel Laderman on a sacrifice fly.
  • Union's lone two runs came in the sixth on a two-RBI single from AJ Cutler to cut the lead to 3-2.
  • Roy-Burman entered in the eighth and held the Garnet Chargers off the board for Vassar to earn its first conference victory of the season.
For The Brewers

  • Roy-Burman tallied his first save with two scoreless innings of relief and gave up just one hit and struck out four.
