Baseball Toppled in Road Action at Old Westbury

Vassar returns home for a league matchup against Union on Friday

Old Westbury, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team traveled down to Long Island for midweek action against Old Westbury on Wednesday afternoon as the Brewers fell 9-6 in non-conference action. Vassar's record drops to 5-9 overall while Old Westbury improves to 9-5 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Vassar got on the board in the top of the first inning as junior Jensen Bergman drew a leadoff walk and then scored on a two-out RBI double from senior Daniel Laderman.
  • The Brewers added a second run in the third inning as first year Quillan Oberto drew a walk and then stole second. After moving to third on a groundout, Oberto came across to score on a wild pitch.
  • Old Westbury put up five runs in the bottom of third after JJ Palumbo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Mike Petrucelly blasted a grand slam to left field to take a 5-2 lead.
  • VC cut the deficit to 5-3 in the fifth following a leadoff double from senior Bradley Markind and a sacrifice fly from classmate Marc Milano.
  • The Panthers extended the lead back to three in the bottom half of the fifth on a bases loaded walk of Angelo Velez.
  • Petrucelly's two-RBI double in the sixth inning expanded the Old Westbury lead to 8-3.
  • VC got back within three in the seventh as junior Taison Jemison drew a walk and advanced to second on a single by Milano. Senior Ricardo Reyna knocked both runs in on a single to right center to cut the deficit to 8-5.
  • OW scratched out a run in the seventh on a RBI single from Palumbo to plate Dominic Felicetti.
  • Jemison led off the ninth with a double and Milano's RBI single scored pinch-runner senior Birch Herring-Jackson but the Brewers couldn't get closer in the final three outs.
For The Brewers
  • Milano and Reyna each tallied two hits and two runs batted in.
  • Laderman added a hit and a RBI along with Jemison and Markind recording a hit and a run scored.
  • Sophomore Asher Millimet took the loss as he went 1.2 innings, allowing one hit, five runs, one walk and hit four.
  • Sophomore Sage Roy-Burman threw a scoreless inning, classmate Patrick Mill tossed 1.1 scorless innings of relief and junior Danny Wellner struck out three in an inning of relief.
For The Panthers
  • Petrucelly finished 2-for-4 with a homer and a double along with six runs batted in.
  • Palumbo recorded two hits, two runs scored and two RBI while Felicitti added two hits and two runs scored.
  • Justin Aramini earned the win as he threw five innings and gave up two hits, three runs, three walks and struck out three.
  • Nick Inzerillo secured the save with two innings of relief and allowed three hits, one run, one walk and struck out one.
