Vassar Drops Liberty League Opener At Ithaca

Anderson wins 11 face-offs, collects eight groundballs

Ithaca, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team was upended at Ithaca in its Liberty League opener on Saturday by a score of 13-6. First Year John Malone (Devon, PA) led the scoring attack with two goals.
 
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 4-3 overall and to 0-1 in conference play, while Ithaca improves to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in Liberty League action.
 
How It Happened
  • Ithaca broke the game open in the first quarter, scoring all seven goals in the period.
  • Cullen Adams scored back-to-back goals inside the first four minutes of the contest to give the Bombers an early 2-0 lead.
  • Adams would complete a hat trick at the 9:24 mark of the opening period and Ethan Adrid scored with 35 seconds left to push Ithaca in front by seven scores.
  • Vassar battled back to within 7-4 with the first four tallies of the second frame.
  • Drew Mazzocco (Leesburg, VA) opened the scoring for the Brewers at the 11:11 mark of the second period.
  • Malone followed with his first of the game before Gunnar Olsen (Lake Oswego, OR) scored and Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) followed with a player-up goal to get the Brewers to within three.
  • Adrid and Jack Pastore closed the first half scoring for the Bombers in the final 91 seconds to send Ithaca into the intermission leading 9-4.
  • Ithaca came out of the break with the first two tallies to move in front 11-4 on a Kyle Savery marker with 5:36 left in the third frame.
  • Malone potted his second of the game at the 3:12 mark of the third, but Ithaca followed with the next two goals of the game to pull back in front 13-5.
  • TJ Carl (Rochester, NY) scored the final goal of the game with just under five minutes left to being Vassar to within the final seven goal deficit.
 
For The Brewers
  • Malone finished the game with two goals, moving his season total to five.
  • Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) assisted on a pair of goals, improving his team lead in assists to 11 and points to 25.
  • Aiden Santoro (Watermill, NY) and Mateo Roman (Arlington, VA) each finished with a caused turnover and two groundballs.
  • Holden Anderson (Windham, ME) finished the day with 11 face-off wins and a team-high seven groundballs.
  • Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) closed the day with 12 saves in goal to go along with three groundballs.
 
For The Bombers
  • Adams finished off a five-point day with three goals and two assists.
  • Adrid, Savery and Brendan Occhino all finished with two goals and an assist.
  • Kyle Proctor assisted on a pair of goals.
  • Jace Dockx caused two turnovers and collected five groundballs.
  • Chase Gulick won seven face-offs and secured three groundballs.
  • Andrew Minard earned the win in goal with five saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Ithaca finished with a slim 35-31 edge in overall shots, but outshot Vassar 25-11 in shots on goal.
  • Groundballs went to the Bombers, 30-24.
