DiLiberto’s Overtime Winner Sends Vassar Past Clarkson, 15-14

Brewers off to best start on record

Potsdam, NY – Sophomore Emilia DiLiberto (Allison Park, PA) scored the overtime winner in the second segment of the extra period and First Year Elizabeth Burgess (Columbus, OH) totaled six points as the Vassar College Women's Lacrosse outlasted Clarkson 15-14 Saturday afternoon. Vassar's sixth straight win to start the season marks the best start to a season on record.
 
Saturday's win is Vassar's first win against Clarkson since 2021 and moves it to 1-0 to start conference play. Clarkson suffers its first loss of the season and slips to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in Liberty League play.
 
How It Happened
  • A back-and-forth affair throughout, each team featured scoring runs of at least five goals.
  • Clarkson broke open an 8-3 lead with five straight goals in the second period.
  • Brooklynne Perrigo sparked the run for the Golden Knights with three goals and an assist, helping on a Gabby Cranfield marker that capped the run with 5:30 left before halftime.
  • Vassar responded with the final five goals of the second period to send the two sides into the break even at 8-8.
  • Burgess and Sigrid Fredlund (Seattle, WA) scored twice in the closing run with Fredlund knotting the score with 32 seconds left before halftime.
  • Vassar extended its scoring run to 9-0 coming out of halftime with the first four goals of the third stanza.
  • DiLiberto tallied twice in the run before Burgess scored at the 6:20 mark to give Vassar a 12-8 lead.
  • The Golden Knights answered again with three of the next four goals, getting another Cranfield marker in the final half minute of the quarter to bring Clarkson to within 13-11 through 45 minutes.
  • Clarkson closed regulation outscoring Vassar 3-1 to send the game into extra time.
  • Perrigo accounted for two of the goals, including the equalizer with 3:05 left in the fourth quarter.
  • With the game tied late in regulation, each team had a possession that resulted in a turnover.
  • Vassar controlled the draw to open the first three minute segment of the overtime period with Clarkson goalie, Riley Donovan, denying a Fredlund attempt in the opening possession.
  • Bree MacMullen (Medford, NJ) responded for Vassar with a stop in the final minute of the first half of overtime.
  • Vassar forced a turnover off the draw in the second three minute portion of overtime and after an attempt by Burgess sailed high, Amelia Poirier (Atherton, CA) found DiLiberto who buried the game winner with just under a minute left in the period.
 
For The Brewers
  • DiLiberto scored her first game winning goal of the season and posted three goals, four groundballs, three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Burgess continued a strong start to her rookie season with five markers and six points, adding a groundball and three draw controls.
  • Fredlund added a hat trick for the Brewers.
  • Poirier closed a big day for Vassar with two goals and two assists, including the helper on the game winner, to go along with three draw controls and a groundball.
  • Emily Stoff (Lambertville, NJ) collected three groundballs for the Brewers.
  • MacMullen went the distance in goal for the Brewers, earning the win with a season-high 14 saves and a pair of groundballs.
 
For The Golden Knights
  • Perrigo led the scoring attack for Clarkson with four goals and an assist.
  • Cranfield finished with a hat trick and two helpers.
  • Madelynn Barnum finished the day with a hat trick and four draw controls.
  • Makenna Cassin posted two goals and five draws.
  •  Sydney Nakas led all players with eight draw controls.
  • Rylee Ganter caused three turnovers and collected two groundballs.
  • Jennaca McGill finished with four saves in just over 32 minutes of work.
  • Donovan suffered the loss with three stops in 32:41 worth of action.

  • Clarkson outshot Vassar 38-28 overall and 28-22 in shots on goal.
