Brewers Tripped Up At St. Mary’s-Maryland

Arcuri totals five points

St. Mary's City, MD – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team suffered a 17-7 loss at St. Mary's Maryland Saturday afternoon to close out its Spring Break trip. Sophomore Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) led the scoring attack with five points for the Brewers.
 
Saturday's loss drops Vassar to 4-2 overall on the season, while St. Mary's improves its standing to 5-3.
 
How It Happened
  • The two sides split eight goals in the opening 15 minutes to head into the second frame deadlocked.
  • After the Seahawks opened a 3-2 lead, Vassar got back-to-back goals from Arcuri and Drew Mazzocco (Leesburg, VA) to push in front 4-3.
  • St. Mary's responded with an Aiden Doyle goal in the final half minute of the opening period to knot the score at 4-4.
  • The Seahawks held Vassar off the board in the second stanza, outscoring the Brewers 4-0 heading into halftime.
  • Doyle scored back-to-back goals to give St. Mary's a 7-4 lead ahead of a Gavin McKay tally with just under five minutes left in the half that sent the Seahawks to the intermission with an 8-4 advantage.
  • St. Mary's pushed its run to 6-0 on goals from Keegan Preis and Doyle to open the third period scoring and advance the lead to 10-4.
  • Mazzocco stopped the run with his second of the game at the 7:14 mark of the third quarter.
  • St. Mary's came back with the next four goals, including another marker from Doyle, to surge in front 14-5.
  • Arcuri potted his third of the game with 2:57 left in the period to bring Vassar to within 14-6 with 15 minutes left to play.
  • The Seahawks potted the first three goals of the final stanza, with Doyle scoring his seventh and eighth goals of the game, to pull in front 17-6 with less than a minute left to play.
  • Holden Anderson (Windham, ME) won the ensuing face-off and potted a player-down goal with 36 seconds left to close out the scoring in the game.
 
For The Brewers
  • Arcuri led Vassar with three goals and five points, pushing his team lead in points to 23. Arcuri rounded out the day with four groundballs and a caused turnover.
  • Mazzocco potted two goals and assisted on another, adding a caused turnover.
  • Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) scored his 10th goal of the season and finished the day with two groundballs.
  • Anderson won six face-offs, collected three groundballs and scored his first goal of the season.
  • Matteo Roman (Arlington, VA) forced two turnovers and picked up two groundballs.
  • Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) collected three groundballs and caused a turnover.
  • Drew Quinn (Garden City, NY) suffered the loss in goal, making 10 saves and securing a groundball.
 
For The Seahawks
  • Doyle led all players in the game with eight goals and added a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Preis finished with a hat trick and four assists, adding four groundballs.
  • Declan Horton scored three times and recorded an assist and two groundballs.
  • Nate Hochrein scored once and assisted on three tallies to close a four-point day.
  • Matteo Ciccarello went 16-for-22 in face-offs and secured six groundballs.
  • Cullen McKay earned the win in goal with 13 saves.
