O’Hara’s Game Winner Sends Vassar Past Hartford In Overtime

Arcuri, O’Hara each record five points

Poughkeepsie, NY – Senior Shane O'Hara (Warrenton, VA) scored the overtime game winner and joined sophomore Gavin Arcuri (Westhampton, NY) with five points as the Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team outlasted Hartford 12-11 in overtime on Wednesday.
 
The season opening victory moves Vassar to 1-0 on the season, while Hartford slips to 0-2 through its first two games of the year.
 
How It Happened
  • After Hartford jumped out to a 3-0 lead, Vassar tallied the next four goals to grab its first lead of the game.
  • Matteo Roman (Arlington, VA) opened the Brewers' account on the season with less than a minute to play in the first period to bring Vassar to within two goals through 15 minutes.
  • Vassar outscored Hartford 4-1 in the second stanza to carry a 5-4 lead into the intermission.
  • O'Hara's first of the game knotted the game at 3-3 early in the second frame before a Jack Rufa (New Milford, CT) tally moved the Brewers in front 4-3with just under 10 minutes left before halftime.
  • First Year Drew Mazzocco (Leesburg, VA) broke a 4-4 with his first of the season with 1:44 left in the second period to close out the first half scoring.
  • Vassar kept the pressure on in the third frame with five more goals, taking a 10-7 lead into the final period.
  • O'Hara, Rufa and Mazzocco scored consecutive goals to open the third quarter scoring, give Vassar an 8-5 lead.
  • After Hartford struck twice to move to within 8-7, Henry Richard (Pepperell, MA) and Patrick Egg (Pittstown, NJ) scored in the final 2:23 of the quarter to give Vassar a three-goal cushion.
  • Vassar moved its lead to 11-8 on an Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY) goal with 10:30 to play in regulation.
  • Hartford responded with the final three goals of regulation, including the tying goal from Michael Novotny with 70 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
  • In overtime, Vassar secured the opening face-off and Arcuri found O'Hara just 1:05 into the extra frame to push Vassar to the season opening victory.

  • CJ Ledwick made 11 saves in goal in 45 minutes.
  • Cole Zering made five stops in 16:05 worth of action.
